Headlight cabling

On cars with TFL (headlights on with ignition) enabled is it simple to restore functionality of parking lights?
The sidelights and headlights come on together on my A2 but tith the TFL yellow wire disconnected from the headlight switch the sidelights still come on with the ignition.
This leads me to believe that they are powered on from the headlight relay panel. The side lights are turned off when the full headlights are enabled on the light switch.
Does this mean that there must be a jumper wire on the relay panel?
If so are there any images of the relay panel anywhere?
Also does this mean that if the jumper were removed that the normal parking light functionality should be restored whilst leaving the headlights on with the TFL connector?

I have not ever looked at the relays before but understand that they are somewhere under the steering wheel is this correct?

Is it normal that there are several wires connected to some of the pins on the light switch?
Does anyone have a pin out schematic for the connector 1JO 972 999.
I know pin 3 is the TFL pin and that many others are not connected and have found some pin out image but it is short on text.
Can anyone explain what the abreviations mean?

I found the list here: http://www.passatplus.de/umbauteile/stecker/stecker3.htm

I am baffled by the sidelights not working with the indicator stalk as parking lights even when the TFL pin 3 is disconnected.
Why would the sidelights come on with the ignition?

Should pins 13 and 14 only have a single wire attached to each? (58L & 58R parking lights)

There was mention of needing a diode connected on the wires somewhere to enable the parking light function and the TFL lights. Where should the diode go.
I only need dipped headlights to come on with the ignition not the sidelights. Could the original parking light functions be restored easily?
