hi again,

my a2 1.4 petrol miss fires when the engine gets up to normal operating temp, i have changed leads, plugs, coil pack, even ran seafoam through the petrol and it still missfies and throws up a flashing diagnostic light. The car drives ok its just when it comes to sitting at idle that the problem occurs.

Any ideas would be highly appreciated

i had the diagnostics checked and it came up with a misfire on cylinder 1. reading into this problem i believe it could be a burnt out exhaust valve? not quite sure the cost or the investigation procedure for this though?

A quick and fairly cheap check for a burnt valve is a compression test where they remove the spark plugs, screw the gauge into each cyl in turn then spin the engine over on the starter. The readings will show up any cylinder down on compression.

Hi, My Fsi 1.6 is in with a multiple misfire at the moment.Cold compression was ok but head off anyway to be sent away for exhaust valves and seats. When re-assembled the misfire remained. Exhaust valves may have been burnt but on this occasion they were not the cause of the misfire. The VW/Audi specialist still has the car (2 weeks ) and still no joy. Always had my doubt about the head removal as first call. Now expecting an argument over money and an as yet unfixed car.

possibility its the coil packs

mine have been causing misfires all week, kept doing a diagnostic scan everytime they did and then checking on autodata which parts are related to the fault code it was and it was coil packs every time (FSI's and some 1.4's have individual HT coils inserted above the spark plug for each cylinder)

after reading on here about a recall to add another earth (GND) connection to the coil pack loom, i added that as i could only find one one earth connection from the coils which i also cleaned up

had a couple of misses after trying that but its gone away now for the past 36hrs or at least the engine management light has

brought a couple of coils and some new plugs which i'll fit as soon as another misfire appears

get the fault codes read before diving in!
