Hi looking urgently for a nice A2 condition, history more important than trim level ( Storm pack is very nice) and engine type

Hi as the title says I am in urgent need of an A2 as my 13000 mile Emola yellow TT mk1 3.2 V6 DSG is too pampered for year round use and my daughter is going on holiday next week (her Ford Focus’s engine has failed catastrophically) requiring the use of our main car. Looking at A2 prices there seems to be a massive difference. What should I be paying for a really nice full service history A2? Condition is more important then engine type as I‘m very anal when it comes to dents and scratches 😂and does anyone know a very nice one I can get my hands on in the week

Prices vary and demand is high esp for TDI. There are mint condition low mileage FSH for anything between 4K and 8k on gumtree/auto trader right now.

Think about where you are likely to drive it. Diesel A2s are not ULEZ compliant. 1.4 & 1.6 petrol are.

That’s my concern, there’s large variations in advertised prices at the top end of the market. i normally research a car buy, but because of. Fords inability to build a diesel engine that will last 3 years and 60000 miles without self destructing I’m being pressured to act 😂

I’d never want to get in the way of anyone looking to purchase an aluminium friend, A2 ownership is awesome!

I currently commute to Lincoln daily so can possibly meet up and assist with any initial woes you may have if you’re unfamiliar with the marque. I’m by no means an expert but have been an owner for some years now wilhich has seen some 8 A2s being here over time, the fleet has been trimmed down to just 2 right now.

There are some things to watch out for on A2s. Here's some that come to mind:

Early A2s had cast iron wishbones with captive ball joints. Later ones had hollow pressed steel ones with replaceable ball joints. However, the pressed steel ones rot from inside and some have collapsed even though they passed an MOT weeks before. So inspect carefully and prod hard. Some people like me have replace the pressed steel ones for the earlier cast ones.

FSIs are well like by those who have a good one but ones not cared for can prove difficult to sort out problems and can empty the wallet. FSH and being run on premium fuel is a must for FSIs. Sometimes sellers will blank out the engine management warning light as this is now an MOT failure. Check the light comes on when the ignition is turned on and then goes out when the engine starts.

Rear axles are beginning to fail with rust if they been subject (for example) to lots of winter salt. Check especially high mileage or vehicles from a coastal area.

Open Sky is much sought after and commands a premium but if not regularly used and lubricated can fail and parts be broken. We have a specialist repairer in the club.

Head linings are beginning to fail after 20 years, especially if the vehicle has been sat in very high temperatures which impacts the glue (common Audi/VW problem I believe). I've just replaced mine. I took it out and removed the old headline and glue (messy job) and then had the "biscuit" professionally covered once I found someone prepared to do it. DIY is hard as impact adhesive is used.

The aluminium exhaust heat sheet is fixed with steel bolts so there is Galvanic corrosion that eats away the aluminium. I replaced mine with alloy bolts and large felt roofing washers with a rubber inset. Note steel bolts on the A2 should be the coated type.

A2 specific parts are getting difficult to get since Audi removed all stock to Germany to Audi Tradition. They no longer export to the UK since Brexit. However, kind member @Rickmeister who lives in Germany from time to time places an order and he then ships to a member in the UK (or brings it himself) and the UK member then distributes. We also have a number of ethical breakers who only break if they cannot restore. This is useful if new parts are no longer available.

hi there
i have a five seater 04 plate 1.4 tdi storm in blue i might sell if the money is right .
its my every day car and is in top condition tom also remapped it last year for me and it runs beautifully and soo economical.
also cheap tax £35.00
has a full glass roof also which works however i does need some attention to the locking mechanism but its closed and doesn't leak or anything
its currently on a private plate which i would need to remove prior to sale ect with recently refurbished multi spoke wheels and reversing aid
mileage is currently 112,000 with a long mot
i just completed a trip to southern Ireland in it and it drove faultlessly
(I'm in no rush to sell it, as i love it however i also have a 1.6 fsi storm which needs some TLC and i cant really justify owning two any more so one has to go)
