Hi I am fairly new to this site as I have only aquired my A2 over a few months. I am hoping to be more proactive with my A2, well at least with the not too technical stuff whilst the other half is away, and more than I have with other cars I have owned. Mainly due to loving the car more than just being a transport from A to B and would love to give my Bella some tlc, and the fact that the stealers can be quite costly to say the least. We do have a trusted garage but unfortunately they are not that knowledgeable about A2s though in general have been ok so far. As you will tell they are not VAG specialists either.

I think this site is absolutely marvellous and although I've not had the best start with Bella I'm sure we'll go a long way! I could really do with putting her on a VCDS diagnostic scan as she seems a bit sluggish and noisy around engine bay I have not had any problems showing on the DIS and wondered if there were any members in the Huddersfield area that could assist me. Or surrounding areas?

Thanks

Hello and welcome,

Should you not find someone with VCDS local to you then this hand held reader might offer what you need. With garages often charging £40+ to read codes it soon pays for itself.

Whilst the A2 aluminium body construction makes it different to many other cars on the road the mechanics are conventional, so your local garage might be more help to you than you first think.

Hi Will and thanks for the reply much appreciated. This seems like a great investment well worth it in my view, since I would be paying £110 to take Bella to the stealers. That is assuming it does pretty much the same thing? I am a fairly competent individual but are these user friendly for the first timer?

We have a range of VAG vehicles in the family so it makes better sense, ie. '03 A2 - Bella :), '03 A3, '01 & '03 Golfs, '03 Polos, '06 Seat Altea. What's your take on the others in terms of covering all the above vehicles? Or are the below a better choice/suitable addition to that you have stated?

http://m.gendan.co.uk/product_VAGVG2.html as a basic one to own individually and/or kept on travels

http://m.gendan.co.uk/product_AUT70X.html or http://m.gendan.co.uk/product_MD702.html

And as I do everything with my phone I like the thought of this one -
http://m.gendan.co.uk/product_ELM327WIFI.html (I'm thinking ease but would it be practical?) Certainly would see the screen better. Could be one to watch! Would it cover said mentioned cars.

As you have a few vag cars in the family. Why don't you invest in the real McCoy and get vcds. I know it's a big investment at £264. But you will soon pay for it with three scans at Audi prices and you can do nothing that is required.

Cheers

David

There are lots of forums, and lots of forum users that can help out. I am a member of briskoda, ukmkivs, vwvortex and a2oc lots of forums have vcds user lists or maps to help you find someone near

Thanks for the info guys. I was thinking the same David the hard thing is persuading them to part with the dosh! (They are only really interested in how cars drive rather than work.) Or I may just purchase this myself (if they don't budge) and charge them should they need to use it (for a while at least). Karlbar2k I briefly visited vwforum yesterday looked like another good source of info, will give the others a browse. Hope to get to know a few members on here & there better now I've gone German :)
