Horrible alarm, central locking, elec window electrical fault!!!

Please could anyone help with the following problem?
My wifes 2002 TDi se has developed a nasty electrical fault.
She began complaining that the o/s/r door did not unlock from the central locking & the interior light came on and off whilst driving along with the o/s/r door showing open on the dash display, these problems were intermittent. Next she could not lock the car without the alarm going off.
On investigation i discovered the electric window did not function either,
opening & shutting the door made the electric window switch flicker as well as the dash display indicating the door position working intermittently.
This pointed to a broken wire so i removed the entire loom from the door and on inspection could not see any broken Canbus wiring or other wiring. I pulled the harness out of the b post and plugged the loom back in with the door internals exposed. The problem appeared to go for a few hours then come back. just touching the loom appeared to remove the problems when they occured, but wiggling the wires did not cause any problems.
My local Audi specialist told me as the problems are all confined to one door it is most probably a wiring fault.
Has VAG had any problems with wiring breaking down inside the plastic coating or could the electric window ecu be to blame?
Where should i look next? there are too many parts in that area to keep buying until its fixed!!!!!!!!!
Thanks :(

Hi and welcome to the A2oc.

If you could get a scan done and post any fault codes it would help the tec guys on here narrow down likely fix.

Good luck

David

Thanks David, I will get a scan done asap. I can borrow some Vagcom software & lead from someone i know & then post the results.

Cheers Chris

Sounds to me as if the door lock on that door is on the brink.

They contain micro switches which then feed info back to the central convenience unit.

If they are faulty and send random open/close signals to the CCU then it will turn the interior light on and display open on the dash!!!

Ok i used my friends Snap-on Solus machine to do a scan and have the following codes;

01331 - J386 Drivers door control module communication Intermittent

01332 - J387 Passenger door control module communication Intermittent

01333 - J388 Left rear door control module communication Intermittent

01334 - J389 Right door control module communication Intermittent

I have cleared these faults from the ECU.
As the symptoms are all in one door but intermittent faults are on all four modules would i be best going for a new electric window door control module?

Any help would be amazing!!
Many thanks Chris

01331 - Door Control Module; Driver Side (J386)

01331 - Door Control Module; Driver Side (J386): Supply Voltage Too Low
Possible Causes
Fuse(s) faulty
Wiring/Connectors from/to Control Module faulty
Power Supply (Battery/Generator) faulty
Possible Solutions
Check Fuse(s)
Check/Repair Wiring/Connectors from/to Control Module
Check Power Supply (Battery/Generator)

Special Notes
When found in an individual control module, it's most likely a local source (e.g. wiring/connectors).
When found in multiple control modules at the same time, it's most likely a common source (e.g. ground spot, battery, generator).
Intermittent codes are often stored during low outside temperature when the battery capacity goes down and may be ignored.

Same applies to all doors really. Make above checks, check 'ALL EARTH CONTACTS', check for broken wires, connectors....

Cheers Sarge,

Is there anyway to check out the door control module?
I have already removed & unwrapped the loom & connectors to the offending door and everything appears to look ok. Should i be checking all the door looms? I have followed the loom from the offending door forward until it goes up into the back of the dash but there was no earthing points anywhere on the way. ( i was expecting one in the B post). I have checked the earth point by the convienance control unit & this appears ok also.
Does anyone know where i can get a wiring diagram from to make life easier?? !!
Many thanks for everyone's help so far.
thanks Chris

Looking at the above, you have the same fault being registered from all doors.
The only one thing in common is the CCU, so that is probably shot!!

John

Thanks again for your help, I will get looking for the earth points!
I will post my results when i have got to the bottom of it or sold the car with frustration!
Chris

I cleaned all the earths i could get too then re tried the car. It appeared ok. Then after a damp rainy night all the faults came back in force. ( they always seem worse when its damp/raining?)
I got the car re scanned because i was worried the other faults could have been caused by me unplugging the ccu with the ignition on!
The following faults came up;

01334 J398- Door control module rear right no communication intermittent ( this appeared twice in the list)

01320 J255 - Climatronic ecu no communication intermittent

01574- Alarm triggered by door contact switch right rear

00956- key 2 intermittent

Does this still point to the ccu?
If so i will have to admit defeat and get a new one fitted and programmed!

Many thanks Chris

Hi Chris.

I will leave others more technical minded than me to say if it is your ecu. But if this is the case a member from the german A2 owners club can repair them. There is a spare ecu in the uk which you can borrow when yours is being repaired.

I will see if I can find the relevant thread.

Cheers

David

Chris, have you checked in the boot area? also do you have water or dampness in the boot? and dampness/water in the space under floor where the Comfort Unit is?

Cheers
Sarge

Many thanks for your replys. It is bone dry in the ccu area under the passenger footwell, it also is dry in the boot. ( my brother had the blocked vent behind his bumper that filled the battery area up). Is there anything else I should check in the boot? Thanks again

Did you already take the relevant door apart? no moisture in there, either? If it's not E-Windows in the door, then I'd change the microswitch before anything else.

Bret

no. It should be dry. There *is* no control module in the door if there are no electric windows at the rear: there are two-three cables for LOCK and SAFE and that's about it. If there was no moisture in the door itself when you took the alu panel off (the one with all the Tx30 bolts) then it's the microswitch, with 90%+ probability. Take the "aggregatenträger" (that's the alu panel in German) off, shut the door again and water that side of the car. If nothing comes in - microswitch. You need to take it all apart to replace that anyway, so I'd say test at the same time.
