Chat How longs left ????

Being the IT nerd that I am I decided to do some digging around regards the numbers of A2s we have left in the Uk, according to DVLA stats up to 2017 there are approximately 12,864 and numbers I’m afraid to say are dwindling at a rate of 1175ish per year if last years stats are anything to go on.. so we’re in April 2018 since the last count my reckoning were down to about 12,600 all variant A2s in the Uk..

So with new MOT regulations/scrappage allowances going on, how longs left before our rare little friends become even more rarer.. ??

When you consider the numbers of transit vans etc on the road then these are very small numbers. If think if we can get a few thousand very nice examples then that would be good.

Looks like the tdi 90 is the rarest of them all! Might keep mine that had its cambelt snap before Christmas

interesting numbers, would be worth keeping the monitoring going
I wonder how many are A2OC members ?

Cheers.

Just looking at A2s for sale and nationally there are only 32 on eBay and 41 on Auto trader. A stark contrast to a few years ago.

Add gumtree and others into the mix.. around the 100 mark for sale in the whole of the UK is slim pickings to say the least ..

Definately a lot more a few years ago. Auto trader used to be over 100 each time. Perhaps all those who have a hood one are holding on to them.
Who wouldn't? Especially the TDi models - they're in the sweet spot of being low tax still and very easy on the pocket to run. And being plastic and aluminium, they don't rust. Well, apart from the wishbones it seems!

Fascinating analysis and topical for me, as last week I finally persuaded my parents that an A2 would make an excellent practical future classic. We've been watching Autotrader for a while and it's been a real struggle to find any good ones. They missed out on a few premium low milage cars, mainly because they were either out of budget or we were not quick enough to get onto the seller. However I am pleased to confirm that they now have a really nice 1.4 SE. All seems sound, just requiring the usual general overall, along with a deep clean & some cosmetic work. Howevert I suspect that with the dwinderling numbers of low milage examples available, prices will climb into the next year. Especially the petrols, which up until now have always been less valued than their oil burning stablemates. Any fine examples (of either) coming to the market now, will demand larger premiums, just because of the rarity value. So another great reason to appreciate our own 'increasingly rare' pieces of automobile design history.

As I said in a thread the other day, I watch the FSI market and I get the distinct impression that the prices from dealers has risen noticeably in 2018. I have no figures to back this up and it may be a blip or I am wrong but I wonder if the dealers reference guide has a new edition with increased prices. Anybody know what price 'bible' they use?

I was in a traffic queue just outside Nottingham the other week and A guy in a huge BMW 4x4 pulled along side the car, wound his window down (at that point I started to worry that something was hanging off the back of the car) and asked was my car for sale. I said not a chance. He then said that he owned the car sales place just round the corner from the queue and if I changed my mind to pop by and see him.

I’ve been monitoring copart for a while now and there’s on average 5 a week going threw which I’m sure half are being scrapped..

Since this was done.. there are 426 less A2s in the UK leaving 13,107 in a country with 31.3 million cars on the road thats a very small percentage of about 00.42 of all cars on the road are A2s

The tragic thing regarding A2's is that with only the slightest body damage, Insurance Company's will class them as a right-off. I'm sure that, with a little expertise from a specialist repairer, most of them could be saved? Shame ......
