How much damage could an undershield cause if it came adrift at 65mph? (Read & weep!)

Thanks Jeff,

I've arranged to return the 8Z0 825 235 E to Blackburn Audi in the morning and they've now ordered a 8Z0 825 235 F for me, which I can collect at 9.00 am on Thursday so that I can get it fitted that day as originally arranged. That wasn't annoying at all compared with my earlier experiences!

Cheers,

Jeff

Jeff,

You may want to speak with the parts guys at Blackburn Audi and ask if they can source the Webasto exhaust pipe-to-undertray fitment and the 3 bolts that secure it. I've attached a PDF that shows the Webasto, and the 3 bolts are item No.7, but unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a part No. for the fitment itself.
If you're unsure where the fitment lives on the undertray, if you look at the petrol undertray you've got, you'll see the round imprint towards front right.
The bolts fit from underneath the undertray.

It might be worth pulling the bonnet off and checking if:

a. the exhaust pipe is present (it's a corrugated pipe that'll be hanging loose on the drivers side).
b. the fitment is sitting on the end of the exhaust pipe (circular fitment with angled solid pipe that accepts the corrugated exhaust pipe).

It's also worth making sure you've got all new fixings for the undertray (hex bolts and speed nuts and 2 M6 nuts), as these aren't usually supplied with the undertray, and possibly the reason it became detatched.

Hope this helps

Jeff

Hi Jeff did you confirm that those wheels are 5X100MM PCD as they look like a more modern design and be 5x112mm PCD. I hope I wrong. Cheers mike

Hi Mike, the wheels are part number 8LO601025N, originally intended for the A3 8L (according to http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/au...ck_sportback_alloys/15_audi_5_hole_wheel_2543) who currently have them for sale for £1116 + £40 for centre caps for a set of four. I bought mine for £100 including the caps - the only bidder on the ebay auction and only 10 miles away from me so close enough to collect! However, now you've sowed the seeds of doubt, I'll take a wheel off tomorrow (just to practice with the jack) and try one of the new ones for size!

Cheers,

Jeff

Thanks Jeff,

I bought 10 screws (AN 907 750 01)and 2 nuts and bolts (AN 905 426 04 and AN 905 426 02) - which was all the Blackburn Audi parts guy said I needed - when I bought the 'wrong' undertray. The garage I took it to this morning ordered a number of other fixings (possibly the things that some of the 10 screws go in to?) whilst ordering the engine mounting bolt. Thankfully, the metal 'flange' at the end of the Webasto exhaust is still attached to the flexible pipe and has its 3 bolts and nuts clamping the last remnant of the old undertray. The mechanic seemed fairly confident that he could get them off and re-use them. However, if he can't, I imagine I'll be able to buy 3 M5 X 16 bolts and nuts from the local engineers stockist to complete the job.
Thanks again for your help. I'll post a picture of the replacement undertray when I pick it up along with one of the finished installation.

Jeff
