Identify this loose connector (AUA 1.4 petrol)

My EML light has been on for a few weeks (previously sorted by cleaning the injectors), however looking under the bonnet there seems to be an unattached connector at the front of the block.. I couldn't find an obvious reconnection point, can anyone shed light please?

Hi,

that's the EGR "dangly pipe". Its meant to be like that, the part at the end is an air filter. The pipe end is meant to be open to the atmosphere (with the filter on the end).

Thanks for that, what an odd design approach! I guess the length of the pipe must have a benefit of some sort (less transient response?), I'm intrigued as to whether VAG has superseded this design in the last 15 years..
