Input shaft bearing noise?

If you have still got the oil that came out check the volume. Compare it to what went in just to satisfy yourself. Slight variations either way will make no difference. Even if over filled slightly I can't see how the box will stop the engine running. Press the clutch to decouple the box and see if the engine runs.

I’m no A2 petrol expert but it sounds like a sensor failure on the engine.
I agree, I can’t imagine how a change of gearbox oil will have caused this so likely co-incidental. The only electrics that will have been disturbed is the reverse gear switch, so worth double checking the wiring for that but again can’t see a connection to starting. If you can get it started I would definitely keep it running right up to temperature to see if any errors thrown.

Yes I've filled it around the same as came out, maybe 200ml more, but it was on a ramp so should be leveled fine.
After sorting the oil out and popping the undertray back, I drove off the ramp with no issues at all, hence I'm so buffled what'd caused this sudden shift.

I'm gonna try to start it up and see what happens. Thanks for the replies.

The engine fired right up! Like nothing has happened before, stayed on idle too, no fault codes, no warning of any kind!
I kind of feel like, my A2 knows I'm moving house, and soon I won't be able to keep the ownership after nearly 5 years, but I promised, I'll find a good next home.. 🥺
Next thing, the engine turns over and fires up in a second. I've let it run almost up to temp, driving up and down the driveway and shows no issues at all, like the last 2 days didn't happen.
The only thing I've noticed, is loud ticking until idle stayed below 1K, then 2-3 minutes and that went away too, pressed gas a few times, reved up nicely.
I've parked up, all seems great again, and no sign of any oil leak or any connection issues.
I'm glad, I hope it's gonna alright now, as I'm indeed moving in a week or so.
Cheers.

Good luck with the move 👍 maybe it was earth cable corrosion and you nudged the cable ...
Thanks Edd, I didn't touch anything in the engine bay for 2 days, and when I promised a good next ownership, few minutes later fired up right away. My A2 never left me stranded, always brought me home before an issue appeared, that required work before driving, like when the clutch gone from one day to another, or the throttle body gave in. I appreciated that and took care of my A2. This move is very sudden, and I've got a lot of work done, which makes it even worse. Either moving first, then I'll see the rest. Cheers
