iPhone Integration - A Cup Holder Transformed

Hi,

I have fitted an XCarlink into a friend's A2, albeit the Bluetooth/SDCard/USB version as he has an Android phone.

That unit was fitted in the glove compartment across the face of the panel where the coin holder normally goes, wires going out the side of the glove compartment and sockets and SD Card port accessible on the left. That position makes the unit easily accessible (for changing SD cards and plugging things in) but without effectively taking up any of the usable space in the glove compartment.

The inline Bluetooth module went behind the Windscreen A pillar trim on the driver's side and the microphone for the hands free in the interior light fitting at the front in the place where the OEM microphone would be fitted. I chose to hide the Bluetooth module as although it has a light and call answer button, the same function can be achieved by the head unit and hiding it away makes the installation quite neat. The Bluetooth module isn't the most pretty of things and its hard to fit neatly with the wires, especially the microphone jack plug at each end.

You need to press the CD button twice on the head unit from memory to switch first to the internal slot CD player and then to the external unit which will be the XCarLink.

If you are getting problems with the XCarLink and the light on the Bluetooth should be illuminated regardless when the head unit is turned on, I would check that you have a good earth connection on the black wire. The fitting instructions suggest connecting it to the case of the radio but I wired it directly to the earth point in the passenger foot well by the lower door hinge.

regards

Andrew

Thanks Andrew - I forgot to connect the earth, so will try again with that. For some reason thought it would work without...

Thanks Andrew. That was going to be my suggestion, but it's not easy to post on the forum whilst driving a mixing desk. Ta! :)
