Some people on the german forum have installed the ICELink and are very happy with it.... I still am put off by the pricetag and the loss of the CD changer... but maybe I´ll buy an ICELink for Christmas...:)

Bye, Frido.

Fit a Blaupunkt DAB 54 - it's brilliant and also includes not one, but two auxilliary inputs at the rear (as well as cd/mp3 compatibility, DAB reception, playback of AND recording to MMC/SD cards and a 4096 colour display). Pictures to follow.[25]

WAS : A2 TDI SE 2001 Ebony Black Pearl (The Little Tank!)
NOW : A2 TDi 90 Sport, OpenSky, winter pack, ISOfix, fogs, climate control, all-round electric windows, Blaupunkt DAB54, genuine HID xenons and red leather! (The NEW Tank)

Trouble is, I've got a Symphony II head unit - so I don't think this can be changed for an MP3 player???

If you have a Symphony II, the ICELink should work nicely.

Bye, Frido.

I have just been to see the Alpine solution. You have an extra box of tricks (like a small amp) that you hide somewhere and the IPOD connects to it, tucked somewhere in the car. Advantage is that you get full functionality of the IPOD thru the head unit eg pick playlists, songs, artists, albums etc using the Alpine headunit display. The IPOD can be connected inside the glovebox or under a seat etc so you never have it on display or need to actually touch it while driving. Drawback is you need one of the appropriate Alpine headunits and the scrolling via the headunit is not as neat as the IPOD itself. Reasonable MP3 Alpine headunit (CDA 9830) and all the kit was £299 + fitting.

My understanding was the Icelink only enables you to play whatever the IPOD was set to eg a playlist or particular album etc and that you need to fiddle with the IPOD itself to change music? Correct me if I'm wrong please as I'm thinking of the Alpine solution.

Heres a link to the Alpine site:

yes AFAIK the ICElink only gives you "partial" control over the iPod... but I don't know excactly what. I just plug my iPod in through the Symphony II's cassete slot.

As far as I know, you can only switch tracks, not playlists, and the iPod starts and stops when the radio/ignition is switched on or off...

Bye, Frido.
