1.4 petrol 52 plate.
EML came on today on the way home.
VCDS showed
16708 Knock regulation P0324-35-00 Malfunction.
What doe this mean and what do I need to do to fix it?

It is, probably, a faulty knock sensor, especially if the engine is running fine.
Worth clearing the error with VCDS, it may clear, and not return, just one of those things. If it returns, replace the sensor.

If is is the knock sensor it’s a hitch to get at
I’ve done one and still got the scares
You need to remove the inlet manifold and work from the top around the back of the engine. It is all by feel and a little sight via a mirror or enderscope
The torque setting on the bolt is some what critical as well as in having the block surface clean before fitting the new sensor
The wiring is however far more likely to be the issue than the sensor itself which are rather reliable

Thanks, can you give a bit more info as to where it is or perhaps a part number so I can locate it in the parts manual?

It is bolted to the side of the engine block about 3” under the cylinder head to cylinder block interface and between cylinders but I can’t remember if between 1&2 or 2&3
You have no chance from underneath the car and from above again no chance until you remove the plastic inlet manifold then it is just about accessible
Much swearing will be done
I know I did plenty especially when it made no bloody difference to the fault

Simon,
The part number of the G61 sensor is here: https://audi.7zap.com/en/rdw/audi+a2/a2/2002-248/9/906-906000/, item 11

Ross-Tech site gives details of groups within the measuring blocks which should allow further investigation of the issue: https://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/m_blocks/020-029.html
Engine 01
Measuring Blocks 08
Groups 020-029

Check it is actually plugged in and the wiring not damaged would be my first port of call especially when you look at the error message.

Yep that will be the first thing as I have been been working around the area with the problems with the new stat !! Just hope it is unplugged and the harness intact as I don’t fancy splicing in new wires.
