Knocking noise from passenger side over speed bumps.

Think its time to give either the Anti roll bar (ARB) bushes or the droplinks a bit of TLC.
Since friday every time I go over a speedbump I get a knocking sound. At first I thought it was the plastic underbody that had come loose but this looks ok. So I guess next weekend is taken up with dismantling the A2!

I read the guide on replacing the ARB bushes with polo ones, but I cant understand whether I need to botch it with jubilee clips etc or whether they are just bolt on replacements. Can someone clarify please?

From looking around it looks like the droplinks are common to all A2 models, is this the case?

Just spent today fixing and electrical fault on the Volvo, it seems these things come in groups!

Hi chb
From reading the mails from everyone who has used Polo ARB bushes it appears they grip the roll bar so tightly that sideways movement is not a problem. Over time, 2 to 5 years - who knows, the bushes may wear enough to allow the roll bar to move. The jubilee clip was a simple but crude (as you say) way of preventing this potential long term problem. I did suggest the use of split collars as a more 'engineered' alternative in an old mail but I don't think anyone ever tried them - http://docs-europe.electrocomponents.com/webdocs/002e/0900766b8002ee96.pdf RS Components is one supplier

I like the idea of split stainless shaft collars (like to be sure me!).
Have you dealt with that place in your link? It's in the states.

Just need to find the diameter I need and the part numbers for the polo bushes on the other link and I am away.

Think the A2 is going to cost me money this year! Getting close to needing front and rear disks doing, and the front tyres are getting worn too.

Still after 2.5 years and 30000miles its only needed Nox sensor and coil packs, so with the ARB fixed, I think that is all the common A2 faults that I have gone through!

Ok, so based on this thread:

I think I need these bushes:
V6Q0411 314N (or sometimes listed as (R)

and I found the collars on RS components website.
I assume my ARB will be 18.5mm diameter, so I will have to buy 20mm internal bore collars. RS component: 363-9386

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=3639386

Will pad the collars out with something to take up the extra 1.5mm.

Does the above sound correct?

Of course all this is diagnosis without dismantling the car. It may turn out to be the droplinks when I get to checking the car out!

Hi chb, I think you'r on the right tracks.
I'd measure the rollbar and check there is enough space to fit collars before buying them.
Rather than pad out the collars also check if its possible to bore out undersize collars for an exact fit.
Let us know how you get on

Cheers Spike

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone ever tried the split shaft collars? Their outside diameter on the 18mm bore ones is 36mm. I wonder is there enough room for them?
