I did this job recently and as you say access is the problem as it is a little awkward to say the least.Anyone fixed the oil refiller pipe to engine? Access is terrible.
The sequence of the o-ring, quick-release and grey clip is as follows? Guess the grey clip it pushed on after the quick-release is fixed into engine?
Anyone did this and know a few tricks to do it? I have problems to get the o-ring in first.
The order you mention is indeed correct and the way i did it.
Unfortunately i don't have time atm to go into all the details but i will add a couple of photo's i took that will hopefully assist you and show what you need to remove.
I did it from the top whilst i replaced my alternator, tensioner and auxiliary belt at the same time although i had removed the engine tray also but the only benefit of this is if you drop the grey c clip you can retrieve it.
The o ring needs to be inserted into it's correct location into the block and it goes quite deep in but be careful to keep it even so it doesn't flex as it could go inside. I cleaned where it goes with a clean lint free cloth and used my pinky finger to locate it.
The more light you have the better but you just have to feel it locate.
I then smeered a little engine oil on the o ring and then inserted the quick release connector in to it's location in the block.
Note the connector does not insert into the o ring which is set in deeper.
Now i inserted the pipe which has to be inserted quite firmly and i put a little engine oil on the end of this too to ease it through the o ring (make sure you keep it straight to enable this). I also lightly sanded the end of the pipe first to clean it up and provide a key to assist the metal prongs on the connector to grip the pipe better (120 grit) .
I don't know if it would work if you could put the grey c clip on the connector before you fit it as this would be so much easier as i don't know if you would be able to insert the pipe through it without the ability for it to move in a little (it purely acts as a spacer and when it's all fitted together you would have to remove the c clip and push and hold the connector forward towards the block to remove the pipe by pulling it towards you, holding it as close to the block as possible so as not to cause the corrugated pipe to come off the plastic connector that goes onto the aluminium pipe at the bottom) but i didn't and fit the c clip after the pipe from the bottom left at 7 o'clock, which is the hardest part of the job.
Thoroughly check the pipe if it is the original as mine was split and causing the leak.
A tip to avoid this happening is to always disconnect this filler pipe at the top where it connects to the oil filler reservoir when doing engine engine work, (cambelt change etc) as it is quite taught and if the engine is dropped/lowered at all it could cause the pipe to split.
I will do a proper 'how to' one day when i get chance but hopefully this helps.
Have to run now, I'm late!
Good luck ?
