Hi there - after a recent imposed 'family' cost cutting exercise (pitter-patter) the TT had to go, sob-sniff *sigh*. Okay it was LHD but it was a 2 years old and the ONLY affordable 225 for me!

Now I am trying to convince the missus that we NEED another car - at the moment her craving is for a fiesta - nice enough cars, but I would rather like to stick to the Audi marque . . . and preferably LHD - not only are they cheaper, but I find them a lot easier to drive and much more comfortable from a driving position point of view as well!

Does anyone know where I could finda lhd A2 (or lhd A2 dealer). Ideally I would like to buy a 2 yr old Silver A2 1.4 TDi SE.

Many thanks for any advice you can offer me - be gentle, Im a newbie [37]

rktec - Welcome to the forum.
It's an unusual request - your best bet may be to order from a dealer in Europe somewhere and do an import. I bet there are some good savings to be made as well doing it that way. It's more common to find high performance cars - such as your TT offered as LHD to make them more affordable to UK buyers. I'm not aware of any LHD dealers that may offer the A2, but maybe someone else knows of somewhere.

Thanks for the welcome Stuart,

Yeah I have pretty much exhausted my internet search for uk lhd A2's so maybe I will have to go further afield . . . incidentally I have th euse of a company A2 at the mo'(2003 1.4 SE) and it rocks, although I sorely miss the bose, dis and aircon from the TT. Alas will be moving jobs soon and will 'need' another one!

If ayone else can help please let me know - if a dedicated forum isn't aware of any then I'll halt the uk search methinks - cheers!

(btw, you guys seem a lot more organised than the chaos of the TT forum - lol)

I would suggest you get hold of a list of all Audi dealers in Holland and phone at least 3 of them. They usually speak English and are likely to have sold cars to UK buyers before. Have a fax machine at the ready, so they can send you quotations.

I agree that LHD cars are more comfortable than RHD models. On the RHD models the accelerator pedal is offset to the left as the wheel arch is in the way. It's also top hinged which is not as comfortable as a bottom hinged accelerator pedal.

exactly!

I'll be phoning round Germany (did a year out there and sort of bumble along nicely auf Deutsch) [8D]

thanks for the help - if I get lucky I will let you guys know ;)

Just a suggestion: Check the german Motor sale web sites, lots of dealers advertise their cars there... http://www.mobile.de or http://webmobil24.de, the latter can be switched to english, too...
Bye, Frido.

Many thanks Frido - [24]

It would seem the Site you can translate into English has added a premium to their prices :OP, anyway - there really isnt that much difference between lhd and rhd prices ~£1-2K, but thank you for the links anyway, at least now I know . . . It's now down to 'shewhomustbeobeyed' as to whether the driving comfort is worth sourcing lhd?

I can't help thinking of the Dealerships face if I was to take in a LHD A2 for servicing - hahahaha, they would try their hardest to ensure I spent a fortune just for not buying one of their cars[3]

hi,

i wouldn't have thought you'd have much of a problem from the dealer, but i guess that's something that he would have to appreciate...:)

the guys here seem to want 17k euros (just over eleven grand) for 1 year old diesels with good equipment: petrols are cheaper. is the difference really that small?

Im afraid so bretti_kivi. . . I reckon that it would cost about 12-13 grand for a decently kitted out 1 year old Tdi SE.

Oh and on the dealer front, you would not believe the hassle I had when taking my LHD 225 coupe into the dealers for any work - even damage repairs!!!! I would like to think that they were that incompetant with every car that came through their door (this is Edinurgh 'Glenvaragil' Audi) but even the customer service was shocking, and on more than a couple of occasions it was 'snootily' commented that "it IS an import though sir?"

Oh really! As if to hint that therein belay all problems - even stamping IMPORT in big letters on my invoices - these guys must have honestly thought rhd cars are built somewhere else!!!! (and dare I say it, but lhd was the original concept of the car, rhd is an inevitable comromise)!

Sorry guys - long day at work - perhaps I should have visited the flame room (if you have one?) apologies. [:I]

Hi

Your best bet is to go to the Audi DE site and click on Gebrauchtwagen - there is an option to search the entire European Dealer network. Alternatively try www.jahreswagen.de for 1 yr old examples. Or, I could put you in touch with the guy i bought my LHD A2 1.2 TDi from and you can fly there for 99p with ryan air - the dealer will pick you up and you drive home on temporary plates - saving 1000s!

email me for more info.

cheers

oh and make sure you test drive the 1.2TDi it really is fantastic - even around castle combe race track - see latest Audi driver mag.

The tiptronic 5 speed and lighter chassis make a real difference - even with fast road work it still does 83 mpg and i've seen 103mpg on a slower commute 28 mile journey! (lowest ever was 44 mpg on track in 3rd gear most of the time!) Also Road tax is just £75 per year due lower emissions
