Major Suspension Overhaul TDi 90

Spent the whole day yesterday at WOM HQ where I finally got the suspension on my TDI 90 Sport replaced.

2x Spidan (Sport) Springs, Front.
4x Monroe OESpectrum Shock Absorbers,
2x Meyle Drop Links,
2x Cast Iron Wishbones,
Free advice,
Free Hot Tea and warm company.

Klaudia has now completed just shy of 195,000 miles, the original components fitted by the factory back in 2004 and removed by Marcus at WOM in 2020 were still in MOTable condition but generally very worn tired and corroded, so much so that the usually excellent ride and road holding of an A2 was being compromised and was nowhere near as smooth and refined as it should be. The front springs creaked and groaned on steering, the rear shocks dust covers rattled over any uneven road surfaces, sleeping policemen, speed bumps, kerbs and some slower jay walking pedestrians ☺ and it just didn't hold onto the road so well around corners like a Sport model really should so it badly needed doing.
The suspension has had these common wear and tear issues for a couple of years now and getting the suspension overhauled completely has pretty much been the last major thing to do on my now short to-do list.

Drove 180 miles home mostly on the deteriorating motorway network M1, A14 and M11. What a difference a day makes! A total transformation of the feel, responsiveness, acceleration ?, smoothness and steering feedback from the new parts making my 16 year old car feel like a brand new Audi.
I haven't had such a big smile on my face for so long and I'm still grinning now and it probably won't wear off for a very long time to come.

So a massive thank you again to Rob and Marcus at WOM. I always receive excellent friendly service, meticulous quality of work and very reasonable prices whenever I visit them, no wonder why I travel so far to get any important work done. I'm not mad, stupid or foolish, I use them because they are the best and most trusted i can find to look after my beautiful and much loved Audi.

Here's to another 200,000 miles of Vorsprung durch Technik in my little Aluminium bubble.

It sounds like a good job done and nice that you could wait while they did the work ..for anyone travelling long distance that’s nice to know ...did they replace top mounts bump stops and shrouds and control arm bushes at the same time or just what you have listed ..? I see the added pictures now ?

They did the lot ? all of that you mentioned including the upgrade to Polo ARB bushes and the earth wire from faulty wiper motor. Oh and he also fitted in an oil and filter change. Marcus is such a fine mechanical multitasker.

Sounds like a job well done. Who are or what is WOM HQ?
They're an A2 specialist workshop near Uttoxeter, considered the gold standard by many.

WOM deservedly have a very good reputation. Rob & Marcus are great lads, the work is done properly, thoroughly and very well priced. I've previously used them for a cambelt change along with water pump, thermostat and temp sender and it's been fit & forget, no issues whatsoever. That car will certainly be going there for its next cambelt too, at which point it will also be time for the oil pump chain to be done. Meanwhile I'm intending to have them do some work on its top end, to sort out the leaky valve stems and cure its starting on 2 cylinders.

Before that though, another one of the fleet will be making the 100 mile journey up to WOM, hopefully next weekend, for a clutch and suspension refresh all round. (That's rather more than a day's work so I'm hoping Rob will have a courtesy car for me.) This is the first time that anything has come up for replacement where I'm going to be able to feel the difference to the drive. So I'm definitely liking what I'm reading here about the results, very much confirming my hopes and expectations ?
