Map LEDs

On the A2 the polarity is the other way around on the map lights so you either need to get the LEDs that were specifically designed for the A2 or dismantle the ones you have and swap the connections around.

Ooh...a chance to take something apart....challenge accepted :)

iv noticed with the interior led bulbs that if you have the front and back switches in different modes to each other the back led's will light up ever so slightly?? Strange... Even when the car is locked...
Yes LEDs are strange things.
Mo had them fitted in the ceiling lights in my Kitchen and there was a two way switch involved. It was the same there, with one switch down and the other up, they used to gently glow even when off.
They need so little current that they do sometimes glow with done current that "leaks" into the circuit.
strange indeed.

I modified the light unit a couple of years ago to make them work with the leds I brought, I ended up buying a new unit and doing with out map led because I thought my mod/bodge stopped the rear interior light working properly! Turns out some clever member noticed a dry bit of solder caused OUR rear interior lights to sometimes not work.

Here is what I did, it involved cutting parts and using wire and rivets to create the circuit I needed

Here's the thread I started with a bit more detail of what I did, It's a bit of a job (the way I did it anyway) you'd be better off just buying the rite bulbs

Hi Scott

i bought the map LEDs tfat were designed for the A2 and they worked as they should.
But it is also easier to swap the polarity of the bulb than the light unit.

But top marks for taking that on.

(could it be your mod that is causing the glowing LEDs because the front and rear are now different polarities perhaps? Resulting in a slight feedback ?)

That is what I thought so I brought a new unit but it's still the same. I no longer use my modified/ bodged unit. I think it is as you say, they just take very little current to make them glow.

I just LOVE that attitude.
It is heartwarming to see people who like a challenge.

it is the way we all learn after all.

My other half also though my £100 soldering iron was a waste just to fix the rear interior light unit with the classic dead joint, so every soldering job is a win for me :)

By the way:

When I read the description of the item I bought, it reads: If the LED does not light up, simply flip it 180 degrees (reverse the polarity)

How the heck would that work? I implies that I just could flip something, and not use a soldering iron and so on?

That would only work with the vanity bulbs and the one in the centre reading light and also side light led's you just can't do that with the reading light bulbs

That's a bad description for that type bulb. You can't flip it!

Thats what I thought. Well they set me back £2.79 so might aswell try and take them apart and see if I can do it myself. I have fat fingers though :(

Yes
tgat only applies to "festoon" (bullet) style bulbs. It is a strip down to reverse single contact bayonet bulbs.
