Marketplace

what happened ?

My personal favourite A2OC feature has become convoluted, over categorised and unusable
the ads may as well be blue tacked to a newsgents window.

Much prefer the one long list of 'stuff for sale'
and then each post having an out in the open , below the advert rapport with the seller and other A2OC members.

I see this being problematic to sellers and buyers a like losing yet more traffic to other free forms of marketplace.

The rapport is still there the only real change is that the rplies and chat are on one page and the advert links to that page.

Adverts with lots of replies on them become long and complicated. This way you do not lose anyhthing, it is all there as it was before and tidy.

There is a long list of stuff for sale the same as before but now every adverts in the list is live and the sold ones are moved to a separate thread, so you have lost nothing

Over categorised? Parts in one, cars in another, how is that over categorised, please give it a chance.

Yes when tyhings change it takes some getting used to but in this case the only real change is that you can choose to see the advert or the discussion. Putting both together in one thread meant that the advert was clogged up by the discussion.

I hope that you will give it a chance please?

I was actually thinking how good it has become now! Easy to navigate and find exactly what you want, and it keeps those happy who don’t want to see the ads.
The only downside for me is that new posts are not so obvious and I may miss something, but I can live with that.

The new posts tab on the marketplace should show you all of the latest activity in the marketplace.

We were asked to remove the constant "new posts" from the main forum, becaus some people aren't actually interested in parts, so now we have the best of both worlds, you will soon get used to it and hopefully others will learn to like it too.

I always feel that updates should be an iterative process, it is 100% more categories than the previous no categories method

Top suggestion on using the 'new posts' tab within the market place, that makes things more bearable and easier to browse. Some people are not interested in anything BUT the marketplace so it is definitely nice to have a separate area for just classifieds. As these Bauhausian Aluminium wonders head onwards towards and past the 20 year mark.. I think more and more people will be insterested in the market place to keep them alive, Audi wont stock everything forever after all...

I still fear the individual ads and separate discussion is going to cause more confusion than necessary.

Especially with the clearing out the garage/ loft type posts. Fearful we'll have 16 new posts in a row from the same seller for each individual part..

I just prefer the auto jumble feel of the old threads, because the truth is you dont always know what youre looking for.. some times you just want.. something... If you know what you want however... there is always the wanted section, ..which doesnt have a hidden page for discussions :D

oh wait no, I take that back..

If you go under the new posts section in the marketplace you get 2 of every thread..

one for the ad,

one for the discussion.

Yes, but not in the usual ‘new posts’ tab
Indeed and that was requested and seemed to give people the option they want, if you are looking for parts you can see new posts from there , if you are looking for discussions and general forum info you can see the new posts from there, but the volume of "New posts" relating to parts was a bit annoying for people not wanting parts.

We can't please everyone, but we try to if we can.

The new marketplace is a couple of days old, please give it a chance, there will be some teething issues.

We are trying to make it better.

Sorry that you don't like it and thank you for the input and we can consider your points.

As for the Auto Jumble, the only thing that is different about the list of adverts is that cars are in a different section, the "Auto Jumble" feel is still there, adverts are posted in one long parts post.

Only one from the advert ever (when new)

any activity on the Discussion is shown as and when it happens.

After nearly a lifetime I must admit I am genetically an owl and not a lark - time for my post midnight post.

Overall the change with the Marketplace gets a thumbs up from me, maybe a few tweaks (later). Some comments.
The main/"parent" forum now looks quite tidy, even quiet! In the Marketplace I like the new subdivisions, eg splitting cars off is a good idea, just a matter of members getting used it and learning he new ropes. It might be less cluttered but I have to say it has lost its vibrancy.

I agree and the vibrancy will return as the number of adverts grow. It was quite empty fir the first few days but it is starting to build nicely. I hope that people also like the fact that we are trying to move adverts to the “Sold”section as they sell, so that the parts adverts are all “live”.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

I think the new marketplace is a move in the right direction. People must remember that this is PART of a club site and is not just a general car part sale site. As such the clearer it can be, especially when items have been sold then the better. some of the old sale adverts were multiple pages long, especially when breaking an entire car and it was easy to ask for something that had already been sold. This way it makes it clearer and also saves the seller having to keep responding that the item requested is sold. If people have a specific wish list then there is always the wanted section to request and wait for a reply.

Splitting Marketplace and Forum has some merit, but separating the advert from its comments seems counter-intuitive. Unnecessary duplication, particularly as it isn’t cluttering the forum (if that was an issue).

It was to prevent the conversations that were posted on adverts in the old approach from clogging up the advert.

What was being sold and updated such as price or spec changes were lost in the (very welcome) comments and discussions.

This way the advert remains clean, up to date and live. Before you had to read through pages of discussion to even see if it was still for sale or to see the sellers latest price or information changes.

I agree that it is not ideal, but if you look at the current adverts you will hopefully see that they are very clear and uncluttered. If you are genuinely interested in the item it is just one click to see the discussion. So in effect it has just added one click to the process.

I definitely see your point but can we give it some time for us all to get used to it first please.
We needed to do something though, the adverts were often very cluttered and difficult to read. Now you can see just the advert and go to the discussion if you want to?

But thanks for the input, it is always good to hear people's Views.
