A very small amount of money on it being a drop link, speaking as one who purchased some new plastic "thingies" for the bonnet and was told after they had been fitted that it was a drop link.
My AMF car had developed a rattle / clunk that sounded up underneath the scuttle on the driver side when going over short/sharp bumps when the suspension on that side was already compressed (going round a bend to the left, for instance). After eliminating bonnet catches as a cause, I was convinced it was the strut top nut being slightly loose or something related to the strut bearing. My mechanic had a look at it back in the spring, and found (once it was on the ramps) that it was actually the rearward control arm bushing on that side that was goosed - a replacement control arm and the clunk went away.Back on the road and this bolt has not cured the rattle
I’ve used adhesive backed foam tape underneath and around the plastic bonnet catch female, still a rattles.
Frustrating because indie garages alway point at that rattle and tell me it’s not the suspension they did .
I took the instrument cluster apart and gave it a shake, nothing loose there. I can press/hold the gauge windows and the rattle continues.
Anyone done something else i can try? Air vent might hold some secrets?
Failing this it’s dash out but I’m reluctant. That’s not a quick job I guess?
Agreed. Dodgy drop link ball joints can sound very much like a loose metal item under the dash.A very small amount of money on it being a drop link, speaking as one who purchased some new plastic "thingies" for the bonnet and was told after they had been fitted that it was a drop link.
Thanks kiklop I'll check the wiper arm pivot.I had the same rattle noise, and at the end was the wiper arm (where the pivot point is) tapping against the windscreen. I am so happy to get read of this rattling sound. Hope it will help you
I wish it was this but I've foam taped the whole lot, packing out the plastic 'cup' from underneath and taped the hook so its all tight and only contacts soft thingsHope bonnet rattling in retaining hooks myself
