Hi,

Congratulations on the work you have done and the way you have personalised your car.

I am sure that some will not like certain things you have done but that would only be because we are all different (thankfully) and we all have different tastes.

You have put a lot of effort into the car and it shows. It certainly must turn heads with the low stance and the wheel arches filled to the full.

Thanks for telling us and adding some pictures.

Steve B

Indeed !!!

If we all drove identical cars there would be no forums like this, no fun and we would all be bored stiff.

And as for the air ride, I think you will need that to get over the speed bumps!

Steve B

The stickers are interesting but not something I would go for myself.
Have you managed to match the rear seats with the new front seats?
Also in the photos the new wheels seem to extend beyond the wheel arches. Is this an optical illusion? If not it must have a fairly severe impact on consumption. What about the MOT?

With the cars original interior colour it seems strange that the steering wheel and trim are beige but the indicator is not. Did Audi ever make a matching stalk?

I wondered about this, too. I believe that all the wheel/tyre has to be within the wheel arch for it to be legal.
I'm not sure about the legality of yellow fogs, either.

I don't think it fills the arches particularly; if you look at the gap between the front and back of the arch rather than at the top, it's clear that it's running with a comparatively small rolling radius. If my guess at tyre size is correct, it'll be geared down by about 6%, meaning the speedo will under-read quite badly.

There's not much kerb protection on those tyres.

The Twist interior has various bits in black: the stalks, the instrument cluster, the stereo and all other centre console bits and pieces, etc. These parts were never made in anything other than black, making the Twist interior somewhat tri-tone.

Cheers,

Tom

Or you can just swap everything to black, like I did.

Love the seats. My wife used to have a TT roadster with black baseball stitched seats. Über rare.
You just need to wire them in to get the heating elements working.

Also loving the stickered front panel, novel.

Hi Tom, just a slight correction, if the tyres are too small a diameter (geared down) the speedo will read Faster than the actual speed, not under reading (I often get the two mixed up as well). I think your 6% looks about right too (max recommended is 2.5%)

As for the tyres, they are not wide enough for the rims, the tread pattern should be more or less all the way out to the wheel rim edge at least. As for rim protection that is zero. It is right to point out any potential safety / legal issues, I think the OP will understand we are just trying to help.

I think (I may be wrong) that legally the tread has to be within the wheel arches (there is even some leaway given I believe) the rule does not apply to anything else (or all E types with central spinners would be illegal and any car with "chunky wheel centres that stick out from the rim.

But the main point is that we, as a forum should not be condoning any illegal mods, I hope aronbradley understands.

I still applaud the effort involved.

Steve B

You are of course right, Steve; the speedo will over-read. I'm so used to writing about speedos under-reading due to the common desire to gear-up and add comfort.

No problem, I make the same mistake often.

Steve B

Those seats look great, good work!
I notice the wheels are 9J - that's seriously wide rubber.
How low is the car vs stock and how does it ride? Hardly anyone has tried (successfully) running coilovers on the A2.

Well,

I like the idea you find the A2 platform worthy of investing some considerable time, money and effort in achieving what you've done, however the mods are not to my taste, but it's good to be different.

What I'd really like to know is what made you choose the A2 for this project?

Cheers

Jeff

Love the seats too but otherwise not my scene either. i do wonder at the safety of stretched tyre set ups too.... wouldn't like to hit standing water/ice/snow in such a set up!

I'm going to be the first to say I LOVE IT , I had a euro styled Lupo and totally understand why you have done the mods you have . For some reason I think the A2 suits the euro style modifications maybe its the shape ? I love the alloys and the sticker bombing works well . More of a show car than an everyday driver as I had many problems in the Lupo with speed bumps and getting stuck on them and if I had 3 people in the car when approaching a speed bump , 2 of them would have to get out and lift the back end up so I could clear it lol .

Would look even better if it was matt black .

In an ideal world I would have 2 A2s , the main car which would be my current A2 and a project A2 which I would do similar mods .

Love the seats and wheels, although the centres would look better silver imo.

I'd look to swap the carpets and other beige trim to black. And ditch the stickers, they don't suit it, but do think the stretch look suits the car!

I'm going to be the second to say it!

I LOVE IT! Exactly the sort of thing I will do to my A2! Currently trying to sort my suspension out and definitely plan some stickerbombing! Fantastic job :)

Love the rims too! I'm trying to source a second bonnet which I can modify a bit before I sticker bomb it. Got a few mods along the same trail of thought :)

Keep us posted. (Love the idea of the air ride. Looked into it and can't find it anywhere short of 2k for a digital, fast-response air ride system with a 5L tank. [Digital Autopilot V2 1/4" Lines, Front and Rear springs, Viair 480C 200psi Compressor & a 20 Litre Air Tank]

hi all, thank you for all your comments
i will have the back seats retrimed to match the fronts soon.i also have the steering wheel to match too.
it will be on air next year after xmas then i can adjust the camber on the arms to make the wheels tuck in. also thinking on having it resprayed for a different look completely.
i have to say i chose a a2 because they are cheap n cheerful to run and you don't see any being euro/modded

Why not consider a wrap, you can go WILD with the colour scheme with a wrap (Chrome, Matt Black, WILD graphics etc, etc) and less than a respray, your mods deserve something more than just a colour change!

Steve B

Or even plastidip!

Full car resprays cost £300 for the A2 from DipYourCar.co.uk - Got my quote but have had to postpone for the moment.

They can even give it a Satin / Gloss / Pearlescent / Metal look.

e.g. Matte White with Red Pearl
