While going through my old pictures I came across a couple that showed my fun car. Of all of the modified cars I have built and owned this one used to make me smile more than any other.
It was a tiny Daihatsu pick up, rusty and standard looking. BUT it had a mid mounted Rover V8 and Jag IRS axle (from an E Type).
It just looked so small and it was much lighter than an A2.
Pull away hard and the front wheels lifted off.
The mid mounted light V8 meant that it actually handled really well.
The pictures show it at the York drag strip, back then I had a two car transporter so I took it along with my (street legal) Drag racer, a 10 second quarter mile and 0 to 60 in 2 seconds and it was a Ford Escort mark 1 (also with a Rover V8 and two nitrous oxide kits!)
In between the racing, a few cars were let on to the track. I was lined up with a really nice (and quick) race car. I managed to leave it for dead and the crowd loved it!!
Those were the days!!
Warming the tyres
The tin box hides the V8
The race against the drag racer (it came second)
My Race car just about to launch
