found these on top of the gearbox just loose, what did they fall out of or how did they get there, as they weren't there when we put the box in.

They look like rubber bush inserts that a screw goes through, that is just a guess.

They look similar to the metal bushes from alternator mounting holes

They are fitted in the rubber grommets of the bracket (it bolts on to the gearbox) that hold the shifter cables. It's to prevent the grommets to be squashed completely by the bolt.

they fall out nearly every time i take them bolts out , problem solved . finally you can enjoy the jdd .
