New A2 owner in Milton Keynes

I have become the owner of a 2000 pine green A2 1.4 back in December. The car has been far from faults free, but I still love the car regardless of that, within 3 months of ownership I have had to change the anti roll-bar (to updated version), bushes and drop-links. The front driver side suspension spring snapped 3 weeks after that when I was getting off a speedbump (very slowly), so the front springs and top mount bearings have to be changed. The passenger side front door strap was changed because it was making a lot of noises, now the driver side is developing similar noise but not too serious at the moment.

Now the alarm start going off randomly in the middle of the night or early morning. I have tried to read the fault codes from the CCCU, but VCDS keep telling me "No communication to module" when I try to read from module 46 (other modules were fine). I have tried to do a hard reset by disconnecting the battery, but with no luck. I am not sure what I can do about that now. The windscreen also has to be changed at some point due to a massive stone chip out of nowhere (just my luck).

I was planning to keep my A2 for a while, but I just wish ownership has been cheaper and easier.

welcome, keep with it you will be rewarded in the long run. You are lucky to live in MK where Tony at A2 cars has his base. He should be able to help with your problems, perhaps not the W/S though!

Hi gtc88

Firstly congrats on new addition and secondly sorry to hear of your motoring woes.

As with any vehicle things do wear out and from time to time need replacing. I should know as I have just this week had to pay a significant amount for a fair bit of work which needed doing to my car very similar to you, wheel bearing, oss service, anti roll bar, springs and a few other things. However now that all this has been done the car drives amazing and I can't grumble at the cost I've paid out as I'm going to be keeping her for some considerable time.

What I will say is that you're fortunate to have on your doorstep one of the most knowledgeable and passionate people when it comes to the A2 in the form of Tony at A2 cars limited who are based in Bletchely. I'm sure if you ring Tony and get it booked in he'd be able to run a diagnosis and give you an overview of your current car and what errors are showing on the vehicle and how to tackle the issues. Take a look at the feedback for them on this very forum, you will find many users are very pleased with the quality of work Tony and his staff provide. I can testify to this as I have travelled from Manchester twice to get work done, that's how much faith I have in them.

I hope you find the forum useful and you are able to nurse your car back to better health.

kind regards
Hassan

Thank you for the warm welcome! I am going to do a battery check as that seems to be one of the likely cause, if nothing shows up I will give Tony a ring.

Gilbert

Thanks Spike! I did the passenger door strap following the same guide in your link and it was not difficult indeed.
