At long last we have an A2 in the family. We picked up a 54 plate 1.4 special edition with heated leather, working open sky, parking sensors and full Audi service history this morning.
Had a great hour driving it back home - what a fun car the A2 is.
Great thanks must go to Mr Birchall for his advice over the past couple of weeks - you're a star sir!
Booked in for a cambelt change and bodywork touch up then hidden away until Christmas morning for my daughter

Hi

i am very pleased that you found what looks to be a great A2.

Prepare to be bitten by the A2 bug.

Have fun

Too late, already bitten...smashing car, but it has a weird problem - for some reason it's much bigger on the inside than the outside

It's very clean but the drivers seat looks like it needs a bit of boot polish in a couple of places - is it that simple or is there a specialist product I should use instead?

I doubt that anyone ever tells anyone about their A2 without using the word TARDIS !!!

There is a process called Connolising and it is a special treatment for the leather that brings it back to like new.

If you want the best option that would be it, in the region of £150 to £200, but youe seats would b like new and stay that way for a long time.

The more realistic option is for specialised cleaning fluids. Seatch eBay and there are some good ones. Avoid the really cheap ones because they can contain damaging chemicals.

I've cleaned it with Autoglym but need something to add colour now, Connolising sounds great but would blow my budget!

There are kits on the market for colouring and repairing the leather. Effectively this is a DIY Connolising.

Thanks all for your help, I'm looking forward to sorting these small issues over the next week or so.

Just had word back from the mechanic - needs new front brake discs (corroded on the inside), pads are ok, handbrake needs attention/renewing (cable presumably?) and a new rear brake pipe - £270 in total.

Other than that, a clean bill of health, although I'm having the cambelt and water pump done for £280

He looks after the other cars in the family and has done for years, so trustworthy, but do these figures sound reasonable?

Hi

it can be done cheaper (of course) but these are ball park figures.
I paid nearly £100 for one of the rear brake pipes on the new axle without any labour charge.
The brake cables are cheap from eBay but dearer from Audi.
Discs vary from £30 a pair upwards. I would never reuse pads though. I always fit new pads with new discs.
The worn pads shape themselves to the old discs and so the contact area is very low with the new discs until they wear in and that can take weeks.

The £280 for the cam belt change is around the notm as long as it includes a new water pump (which is almost essential)

I checked the water pump was included and am happy overall - I got the car for £1600 and budgeted £250 - £300 for the belt.

Ok, a bit of extra expense for the brakes but taking a wider view, for £2150 I've got a late A2 in great condition with full service history, 12months MOT, clean bill of health and new cambelt :)

seems a cracking deal to me and it's excellent you've got a good 'un with a clean bill of health.

Thanks Murdo, that's reassuring. It seemed a good deal but not really knowing anything about A2s I did wonder.

Can anyone identify the colour of my car? Sounds a daft question but I can't find reference to it anywhere in the documentation I have, other than a description as 'silver'.
