If the alarm is going off then the internal switch will not do much as it only disables the internal ultra sonic monitoring of the car. All other alarm switches are still active..

I would check the service flap microswitch is making good contact with the flap closed. Make sure the rubber cap is installed correctly on the top of the switch, that it is not holed and the switch has not been pushed out of its bracket. What I do is glue a 3mm thick 10mm diameter washer onto the flat square that the switch operates against. This then increases the throw on the switch to ensure contact is made. Bonus is when you open the flap the switch now pushes the flap open a little. If this is working properly then further investigation would be required.

Is the alarm going off when you open the drivers door? Does the drivers door operate the interior lights? Does it show open on the DIS? Do the alarm and fuel flap switches illuminate when you open the drivers door?

Super! I will ask to have all those things looked at, there (as I think I mentioned, I suspect because of inquisitive fingers) isn’t currently a switch there, so by any measure (even with an upside down switch) I’ll be 100% up on switches with any new item fitted ?

Tom @2work bought one for £250 last year all legal and in a lot better condition than the price would suggest. I'm sure he'd be the first to admit it's since several times its purchase price lavished upon it in maintenance and upgrades.

If I remember right, Steve @Cenick also had a really inexpensive pine green TDI a while back.

£225 and a bit of work, should of kept it

And this one in Castle Red, which I paid £450 I think.
I only sold it as it didn’t have air-con which I do like really.

Subject to one of the warning lights on the dash going off and remaining off (new switch required) the car now has an MoT. The power steering pump was replaced, the rear brakes fixed and many other bits dealt with. So far, I couldn't've bought a cheaper A2 with this much stuff, that many seats and the owner's gear including the keys for the amount of money so far outlaid. Very pleased ?
