New selector tower/cables, Woes!

I took a photo of the original selector tower before removal. The new tower IS exactly in the same position, including the top section. I've thought that as an interim step, I COULD have connected the cables to the tower BEFORE inserting it to the gearbox. I could then have had someone shifting through the gears and I could have observed the corresponding movement in tower gear positions. I could still do this .... it's only held in place with two bolts ....... However, because I found that I could manually select all the gears and there was free movement to the disconnected gear lever, it could only be a fault with the cables .....

I've lost track, but have you confirmed yet whether you've had a look at the area underneath the gearlever? If any of those plastic bushes that secure and transmit movement into the cable ends has gone you'd have next to no precise control over one or both of the cables which could result in them not giving the desired range of movement at the other end of the bowdens.

David, we are just trying to help YOU by suggesting or questioning known issue areas. Unfortunately your responses are getting more aggressive, as such I am walking away. Good luck.

I started-off replacing all that in August 2020. I purchased it from https://www.a2oc.net/community/index.php?members/clackers.13533/ It should be spot-on with no wear/problems ....

It is worth noting that I didn't read this post as being either aggressive or defensive - just a statement of fact. Very happy to keep discussion going - I fear going down the same road of eventual gear selection failure (in one mode or another) is more likely than not in the next few years or so, so this is a worthwhile learning curve given the impact if this happens on one of my cars (or anyone else's here who could benefit from the same discussion).

@audifan - also worth pointing out this isn't a dig at you either, you contribute a lot on these mechanical questions and your contributions are very much appreciated.

That is a hurtful and upsetting comment to make? You will see in post #11 that I'm always ready to thank members for their contribution(s). That includes yourself. I do have a positive and direct way of expressing myself and I'd like to apologise if it has caused you offence.

Ordinarily, I’d not intervene in a public fashion but in the interests of expedient harmony I’d like to encourage a virtual handshake here.

David, @DJ 190, I can see that your use of capitalisation is emphasising points in your replies. I can also see, as text comes without a defined tone, how Graham, @audifan, might perceive this to be defensive and shouting.

I see this as a clear case of misunderstanding and hope that Graham can accept David’s apology, affording him similar grace, and that, Graham, you continue to share your wealth of valued knowledge on this and other topics.

Take care,

Darren
