Open Sky system

When opening my open sky roof, there is quite a clunk as the forward bit slides back and meets the aftermost bit, sometimes it needs a helping hand. I have lubricated everything I can reach, and I have put silicon polish (MER) under the bits that I thought may have been sticking, and then cleaned it off again when there was no improvement The clunk is clearly caused as the aftermost bit tries to lift, and seems to stick.
Has anybody else found this? Is it a "characteristic"? Is there a cure? Will it cause future problems, such as roof open, rain starts, roof won't close?

Ours also has quite a clunk when opening. I've only really noticed it over the last week and heven't had a chance to look into it yet.

On previous cars I've had with electric sunroofs, there has been the ability to close the roof manually with a screwdriver. Does the A2 have this facility if the roof was ever to cease functioning properly?

Rob,
According to the handbook there is an allen key/crank handle located behind the interior light fitment. You need to firstly remove the interior light lens cover and then press the two metal clips at the front of the housing inwards. This will allow you to remove the housing to access the key and the roof motor socket. Never tried it myself. Will wait for a problem!

Whilst talking about the open sky roof at the club social Kaine mentioned a clunk on opening the sunroof. This was caused by the roof panel expanding in direct sunlight on hot days. Maybe the recent good weather could have affected yours?

Opened our roof today and it has exactly the same 'problem' you mention - a firm clunk as the second sheet of glass starts to lift, tried opening and closing a few times but the clunk remains. Doesn't seem to cause any problems though, so I'm happy to live with it for the time being.

Thanks for the re-assurance. I'll keep an eye on it though. Frightening noise sometimes when you are used to smooth precision, I had a British Leyland once.........

Mine also does the clunk noise but does not seem to effect it .
Seems to make the noise when the front glass meets the aft glass as it opens thought it was the locking mechanism opening to allow glass to open and move backwards.
Maybe look towards the motor and lubrication of the motor pulleys.
just an idea please let me know if you remedy the problem

many thanks

My A2 has also the "clunk", if the rear glass will be lifted. But it's very mysterious.[?]

Yes, mine has a clunk too, but only because it reaches the pojt where the secone glass sheet lifts. Never had any problems and love the Open Sky roof.

Nice sunny day today, so played with it whilst wating for my wife to finish work. The sound (on mine) seems to be at the rear of the second moving glass pane, so it's where it's disengaging from the rear rather than the front bit rubbing over it, etc. Still a nasty clunk, but I can live with it.

WARNING!!

Yesterday, i opened my skyroof for the first time this year. I was expecting to hear the clunk, however nothing. Actual nothing!!! The roof locked half open. For a few seconds the roof failed to operate at all, then I managed to close it again. Being a crazy fool with things like this, I tried it again. This time I pushed the rear section up through the net cover. This time the roof opened with a clunk - as normal. I then tried to open and close the roof a few times without giving it a helping hand. It opened with the normal clunk.

Due to this experience, I am now not happy with just living with it. Going to drop her in this Friday, for AUDI to take a look.

You will see that when I started this discussion I said that mine needed a helping hand. It's a heart stopper when it stops half way. I will also be very interested in your results at the dealers. Be sure to tell us all.

Delayed. You know how it is - too busy and all those type of excuses. However I really need to take it in. I'll post as soon as I have been.
