Hi Neil,That’s what used in mine
Looking good @2workHello all,
Some of you might be able to guess what I’ve been up to this afternoon/evening judging by the pictures on the a Today I… thread.
The long version of the story is that the A8 D2 wheels that’s I fitted earlier in this thread were a little tired looking so had them powder coated but the finish has tarnished very quickly. I’ll be taking them back to the refurbishment centre in the coming days to see what can be done to improve the finish. In the below picture if you look in the centre first you’ll see what they’re meant to look like. Moving out to what’s on show you’ll see that the finish is quite dark and almost grey:

I’ll show a comparison of the aesthetics further down. Also the centre caps that came with the wheels are well past their best and have been DIY refurbished very badly (not by me I must add) and have been on the hunt for a new set for many months. I was extremely lucky a couple of months ago when someone on eBay was selling a NOS set of centre caps that he purchased for his A8 as spares some 20 years ago. Only this afternoon were they finally removed from the factory packaging. Here’s what’s been fitted for months:

Here’s the NOS items:

I’m sure you’ll agree, there is a massive difference. The first set are ready for file 13 as I have another decent set that came with the recently delivered (by Rick @Rickmeister) wheels.
This set that I picked up from Rick (thank you so much Sir) over the festive period had fresh rubber an hour ago and also fitted the NOS centre cap shown above. Here they are fitted:

In the flesh the aesthetics really are night and day.
Here’s the car again with 2 on the powered coated wheels loose, sure you’ll see how different the colour is:

As these powder coated wheels have rubber with less than 500 miles on them, they will be refinished and make their way onto a certain Azure Blue A2.
Kind regards,
Tom
I think it looks great.Hello all,
Some of you may well have seen the latest addition to this stunning A2 on the Today I… thread.
For those of you who haven’t then let me take you back a week or 2. Remember me tinkering with instrument clusters:
A6 C5

A3 8L

Borrowed bits from each to upgrade the A2 cluster. Here are the scales in the standard red LCD cluster before I have worked out how to embed it to read correctly by adjusting the hexadecimal data:

All sorted now so finally have the above white scales in the 3DcolorMFD instrument cluster:

I think this is a glorious ending to this cluster experiment/venture. You can probably imagine the size of the grin on my face right now. I’ll add some pictures later on when the ambient light drops to show how nice the backlit numbering is at dusk. Nothing to show when dark to be honest as the white scales simply look like standard black scales when the ambient light has dissipated.
Kind regards,
Tom
Evening Joakim,I think it looks great.
With the hand on your hart; how about readability and contrast vs std?
Did you have any use of the S3 8L cluster?
I am not man enough for a FSI, haha. My hands are full occupied with work on my 1.4 petrols and 1.2TDI s.Evening Joakim,
I’ll go for a short drive in the next hour or 2 to see how it is at night. Think it’ll be fine though as it’s been in the other Audi’s in the past.
I do have the S3 cluster with the RPM scales that go up to 8k just like the FSI. I’ve also got the C5 Quattro KPH scales which go up to 260 kpm. Both scales are of course in white and wound be spot on for a FSI over in Europe.
Do you have a FSI Sir.
Kind regards,
Tom
Hello again Joakim,I think it looks great.

Edited: mistyped A3 8L as S3 8L
Morning David,Congrats Tom on what to my eyes is the only white dial conversion on any dashboard I’ve ever seen that looks tasteful and a genuine anesthetic improvement over standard!
Evening,These look really great, as does the car!
All you need now is to retrofit a towbar and air suspension, and you have every light on the dash functional
Morning Bob,Very nice job Tom. Would look very good in Smurf, if you fancy sorting an FSI console?
