Someone's been a busy boy :) Well done getting it all to fit nicely together ?
It does seem a bit crowded though.
I get the idea of showing all the car's supported technologies on the splash screen, seems a very modern thing to do.
My own preference would be either to go for just the club logo on its own, or if I was going for the modern look, then everything except the club logo.
But that's just me :)

Edit - I don't suppose it can be made to fade the one into the other, like ColourDIS has an animated splash screen? That really would be cool ?

Could the file be uploaded and sent out as an upgrade to mine Tom?
Evening John,

I don’t see why not Sir. The file is a .bmp and if the forum cannot support attaching such a file type then I’ll save it with a different type and you’ll just need to change it before you load it onto the SD Card in Slot 1.

Failing that you could just PM me your email address and I’ll send it over. Let’s try and go for the attachment on here first though. I have a few options available which you’ll see over the course of this thread.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening Ian,

I know what you mean. It is a little crowded and prefer the previous option I had displayed.

I’ll get it just right one day, until then I’ll continue to play and see what works.

Unfortunately the Splash Screen on the RNS-E is a static Bitmap. No current Gif style moving image will work.

Tom

Afternoon all,

I’m guessing some of you will now have seen the additional pins I have available in Project 250's Slip Ring for future connectivity by utilising a TT M revision Slip Ring.

It was a complete gamble which I wasn’t sure of the outcome but turns out to be a complete success so I’ve therefore since purchased another TT Slip Ring. It arrived yesterday but didn’t get home until late so installation had to wait until half hour ago.

Here’s OEMs Slip Ring some 20 minutes ago:

Quickly fitted and calibrated this:

And OEMs slip ring now looks like this:

It now has 3 additional pins along the top row that I can use for future expansion.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon,

As I’ve halted proceedings with the heated FBMFSW whilst I wait to obtain the correct slip ring, I thought I swing my attention to something I’ve been putting off for many months…..

Removing the front bumper. This was due to wanting to fit something I’ve had in the garage for as long as I can remember as these were destined for my previous commuter.

First off was to remove this little Hella item:

To be swapped for these Bosch items:

I located one of these Bosch horns in the factory location and replicated in on the other side of the vehicle:

The sound is so much better. Personally I don’t use the horn but should I need to I can confirm that I’ll get noticed.

Oh and whilst I was was putting the bumper back on I thought I’d try this out:
24ECF9D2-E7FC-47AF-BEA8-4EC395BD44ED.jpeg

Anyone notice the new addition?

Quite concerned about the way the top of the bumper covering currently sits:
76A00FE5-6450-44D6-9920-45A5CDE1C5C1.jpeg

I can confirm that nothing is below the covering and that all factory fixings are in place and holding correctly. Maybe the bumper covering is distorted/slightly out of shape from storage? Hopefully it settles after a few days

Kind regards,

Tom

you've Dremelled a pair of mirror-imaged parallelograms into the bumper skin to make us *think* you've got headlight washers? Am I warm? :)

Afternoon Robin,

As much as I don’t mind getting the Dremel out, not even I’m brave enough to attempt installing the headlamp washers to a standard bumper. It is of course an OEM item that’s been in storage for a while.

Tom done most of the electric work whilst installing the very elegant Color DIS.

Kind regards,

Tom

Just out of interest Tom how do the headlight washers work. I was always under the impression that they "popped up" with water pressure...where does the electrickery come into it please. ?

Hi Dave,

You are correct in thinking the headlamp washers pop out under water pressure from the additional pump on the larger washer bottle. .

The electrical installation other Tom done was to provide the power supply via the 615 relay to the additional pump when the headlights are on, all I had to do earlier was to fit the bumper covering and solder the wires (that Tom provided in the engine bay for me) to the pump itself. Very satisfying to finally have this retrofit complete, it’s been a long time coming!

Kind regards,

Tom

Me again,

I considered all approaches on where to site the twin tone horns. One of them absolutely had to be in the factory location.

I wasn’t keen on mounting the second horn where others have decided to choose so I tried to squeeze both in the same location. Unfortunately the factory location didn't have the space for this to happen.

This is the reason why I opted for symmetry in the end by placing the second horn in the same location but on the opposite side or the radiator, just like on the A6 (C6 I think) which is what (again I think as it was some years ago) the horns were removed from at the breakers near my work.

I had to play around with the bracket I fabricated (the bracket one of the horns was previously on, even has the Audi stamp on it) as it needs to be long enough to clear the obstacles that are in the location.

Quite happy with the way it turned out as the sound is truly awesome.

Kind regards

Tom

Any particular reason to change from Hella to Bosch?

Evening Simon,

Honestly, no reason what so ever. I had no preference of a particular manufacture as long as it was from a fellow Audi. I simply wanted Twin Tones horns.

On this occasion the methodology of choosing Bosch is purely down to chance as this is what was fitted to the A6 I removed them from some years ago. I must say though I am very happy with this small addition as they do sound very good together.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening all,

Apologies for leaving this thread dormant for a while, not much been going on with this daily commuter recently. It’s been serving it’s purpose just perfectly but no additional enhancements for a while.

After a little misdemeanour yesterday I can report that, yet again it sailed through MOT. The tester was quite taken with the quality and loudness of the twin tone horn, so glad I upgraded to this set-up whilst I recently had the front bumper off.

The misdemeanour that occurred was initially to fail the MOT due to the vredestein collapsible spare being fitted (different tyre sizes on the same axel) due to getting a puncture whilst out yesterday morning for a pre-MOT warm up.

Whilst changing the OSF wheel over I unluckily picked up a nail in the NSR tyre, yesterday wasn’t a good day for me and tyres.

4 new boots fitted today and no advisories.

Tomorrow it’s off on a journey to roughly where it was first purchased some 19 years ago… I’m heading to collect a Soul double DIN dashboard from @A2Steve and also heading to elsewhere in Wales to assist another Club member with parts collection.

With only 1 week commuting remaining before I break for the festive period, this glorious A2 will be having its Jive double DIN dashboard removed and the Soul replacement fitted, this should make it look a little better to eye as I’m no longer a fan of the Jive colour.

Also the TT M revision slip ring has been removed and the A6 AL revision has since taken its place. Next week will see the 5th different steering wheel being fitted, a SQ5 MFSW will temporarily control the direction of travel whilst I prepare the A3/5 FBMFSW with the heating element. Testing is complete and I have now mastered the art of removing the leather covering without getting creases along with stitching it back onto the steering wheel.

Fingers crossed I’ll finally have the heated sterling wheel that I set out to achieve many months ago. It’s not been the straight forward task that I first thought as there have been a few variables to consider for safety along with trying to obtain a reasonable priced VAG factory heated steering wheel to play with. I’ll provide a full write up once I fit my HFBMFSW!

Kind regards,

Tom

With the weather of late the heated steering can't come soon enough I'll bet. ??️

Evening Stan,

You're quite right Sir.

When I first considered this upgrade I was running a round A1 MFSW which was as cold/solid as both the SE and Sport steering wheels which most A2s have fitted. Since upgrading to the Flat Bottomed variation I must say that it feels it has a padded membrane below the leather covering (which I've not noticed on the round MFSW) and warms up to the touch reasonably quick.

This padded membrane does feel like it's insulating the leather covering from the cold rubber covered metal steering wheel but its not going to stop me seeing this through to the end.

I like the idea of this delightful commuter having a HFBMFSW. A perfect christmas present (along with some Soul enhancements) to a vehicle that has done me proud since its purchase March last year.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon everyone,

A quick update on what I was upto 2 days ago, only now showing pictures as the vehicle has been utterly filthy from the recent weather and muddy family walks we’ve been conducting around the midlands on the National Trust card.

So some of you may well have guessed from my recent post on the Today I Thread along with what I have for sale in the market area…

Yes I’ve finally got round to swapping out all the Jive coloured items:

1003F9D8-0C05-46BD-87EF-D18977285BB9.png

For Soul coloured items which I recently collected from Steve @A2Steve and Jeremy @sciroccorrado (thank you both):

The interior really is transformed. Where Project OEM+ now lacks in Jive, it certainly makes up for it with plenty of Soul!

Really happy with the outcome from a few hours work.

If I’m allowed to take the Furniture Clinic black leather paint into the snug, I’ll repaint the leather touch items whilst sitting down watching The Book of Boba Fett later on this evening, sure the other driver here might have something to say about my aspersions though.

Also treated this awesome A2 to a hard touch ASR button and trim (more thanks to you again Steve):

I also thought I’d threat this wonderful commuter to something to protect the headlamps once I restore them:

Now these headlamp protectors are something I’ve been trying to acquire for some years. I know someone who had a set who’s been teasing me with them for some time, fortunately I was able to prise them out of his hands a few weeks ago. Thank you John @johnyfartbox.

Here they are temporarily fitted:
