Something is loose in my 1.4 TDI's steering, and it's causing this kind of annoying rattle in the steering wheel at certain rpm, or when driving on very rough icy roads for example:

This annoying behaviour has become more and more noticeble as the weather has been getting colder and colder. The best way to reproduce the rattle, is to start moving in very low rpm, so that engine shake is making the steering wheel rattle.
Also, on very cold starts withut preheating, after the start the the engine is idling so roughly that it makes the steering wheel rattle. You can feel the steering wheel shake in your hands when you hear the rattling sound.
The steering wheel doesn't feel loose at all when you try to shake it, it's just something coming from the steering column that makes it rattle.
Any ideas what could cause this?
