Rear Disk Brakes

Hi guyz, just wanted to know if OEM rear disk brakes for the tdi 90 sport is a sufficient enough replacement, or does anyone know a better option as i am due to replace mine at the end of the month.

Hi Dan b, AUDI and TPS(thepartspecialists) who supply AUDI are doing the same rear disk parts. EUROCARPARTS are a little cheaper but they have a disk called PAGID which they recommend.

Do you know about these disks and are they any good?

Also, what pads would you recommend i should use with these?

Pagid are a well respected friction material manufacturer, I used their fast road pads on a previous Audi. I think they also are an OEM for many car manufacturers.

So considering that they dont do much, would it help to have better brake pads or just stick to the OEM stuff?

Or Mintex if you can get a set - they're more than man enough for the scant job that the rear discs are asked to do!!

Cheers,

Mike

Oh, and as a PS, if you're doing the job yourself, you MUST use a proper caliper wind-back tool to keep the handbrake happy!

Cheers,

Mike

My handbrake has to be pulled up really far and it still rolls back a bit sometimes, could this be the rear shoes or the handbrake cable or something along those lines? and how would it be fixed

I thnk you can just remove the little cubby hole behind the handbrake and it should reveal the adjusting nuts on the cables... I thnk !!! I am sure I have tweaked mine in the past this way.

Can anyone confirm this and even better show some pictures because i would love to sort the handbrake out asap it is getting on my nerves and getting worse!

Chris

The correct way to adjust the handbrake cable is thus:

jack the back of the car up and have both tyres off the ground and free to move. This will mean chocking the front wheels!

Pull the handbrake lever up 4 clicks (not 3 or 5!!). See if the tyres can be moved by hand. If not, then there's no need to do an adjustment.

If you can move the tyres by hand, then adjust as follows:

Remove the little cubby holder at the rear of the handbrake lever to expose the adjuster nut. Turn clockwise by 1 complete turn and try the tyres again and keep on adding 1 clockwise turn until the tyres are hard to move by hand.

At this point, you can drop the car back down and then you should be able to pull the lever to 5 clicks (6 if you work-out!) and that's all there is to it!!

Cheers,

Mike

Hey Mike, thanks a lot. I'll have a go on saturday morning, and what sort of tools will be needed? thanks

Do you need blocks or could you just leave the car in gear? what tool is used to tighten the nut?

Chris

Chris, you could leave the car in gear, but safety first eh??

Sojah (and Chris) - I believe that the socket needed for the nut on the adjuster is 10mm, but it could be 12 - it's been a while!!

Because of the way the trim panel goes, you'll struggle to do adjustments with a spanner.

Cheers,

Mike

True, i can imagine the car rolling away and me cursing and chasing after it!
