Rear Spoiler

Done some more reading on the A2 rear spoiler. It's function is two-fold
1. to smooth the airflow and reduce turbulance at the boundary layer between the air going over the car where it meets the air that's gone under the car. Presume therefore that the larger spoiler on the 1.2 is meant to make that more efficient.

2. to reduce the splatter of road film

I would tend to agree with Mike that the primary role for the rear spoiler is aesthetic. It may however influence aerodynamics in some way because the upper surface is higher than the standard spoiler and the lip does protrude further. I had originally considered colour matching the original spoiler but I fitted it to my car for the visual impact, it makes the car look more balanced in my opinion. I must also add that the view from the rear view mirror is also affected slightly. Best of luck with your decision.
