Recommendations for Engine repair work in Portsmouth/Winchester A3 area? [Possible Crankshaft Sensor Issue]

Hi all,

I think my crankshaft sensor has finally chucked it on my 1.4TDI after a few months of intermittent starting issues and replacing other sensors (Fuel temp, and Camshaft sensors).

I am currently in the South East England, Waterlooville area, on the A3 about 20 mins from Winchester and Portsmouth area.

The car won't start at all so I am stuck here.

Any recommendations for a garage in the area?

Thanks

If Basingstoke is not too far, try SJB.

They look after my A2 and Mk1 TT.

I think that’s a fair trek for him if the car doesn’t start Mac.

@ecurb personally I would look up a VAG specialist independent garage nearby and check their online reviews.

I'd assumed we're not looking at the car moving under it's own "steam"
Once on a flat bed, you just want it to go somewhere good, not the flat bed drivers mate.

Thanks for all the suggestions, will make a few calls tomorrow.

Hopefully its not too $$$

I recently had this with a TDI75 and wasted a lot of time and money through not checking whether the sensor was really defective. The fault was actually in the loom at the (easily accessible) connector into which the lead attached to the sensor is plugged. I wish I had got somebody to crank the engine while I jiggled the loom - it might well have told me where the break was. If it is in the loom I think you're better off getting an auto-electrician to come to you than having the car transported to a garage. Good luck, anyway.

So I had the local repair recovery man out.

He worked some magic with a can of brake cleaner spraying it into the engine. The engine then burst back into life but was struggling to pump fuel.

After 5 minutes of idling it was back to normal.

Just started the engine up again after a few hours off, it struggled to start first time, I had to recycle the ignition and it limped back to life.

Hopefully I will be able to get it back home.

Also just to say, it appears its not the crankshaft sensor, but a "lazy" injector which is causing it to have problems firing up.

I will get it to a garage ASAP when I am home
