Redex or some sort of cleaner?

I remember when I was a kid watching my dad pour that redex stuff into his old motors he owned, this car is now 4 years, so I wondering should I use some sort of cleaner - or are these just a take on, lol - I seen a magnet on ebay that you add to your fuel line to improve the mpg! I think that's taking the biscuit.

Let me know - fuel lovers.

Chris,

I've found Comma D-Tox to be very good.
I'm currently trying Millers Oils version (gets good reviews in Audi Driver) but I haven't been using the car lately so I can't really comment on it.

Cheers

i'm told that the commercial use injector cleaners used by garages can sort out some diesel injector blockages, not sure about anything else particularly for petrol cars, the magnets were proven not to work on tv recently.
wasn't that redex for decoking engines? i bet the quality of our fuel and engines has improved a bit since those days.

I've been using the Millers stuff with mixed results - the car does run well, but the promised economy improvements are negligable.

Cheers,

mike

Yep, that's the one.

Don't expect miracles though - smoke does decrease quite a lot however.

Hi, how much shall I put in of this millers stuff.. It says it treats 10 full tanks of fuel but how much shall I put in, 1 full cap or 1/2 and how often should I do this? It also says before refuelling so should I wait til my tank is near empty...

Thank you

The reference to Dad putting it in , is true of me and my dad . The technique was remove the air filter (modern cars would probably stop immidiately and email back to base !) Rev the nuts off the car or bike , then pour neat ReEx into the carb throat. Lots of smoke (white) stuttering then back to normal. Never really knew if it worked!

Any one know the answer to my questions please

Best thing to do is put a full measure in when the tank's half full, then run it to reserve, or, put 2 measures in when filling up at the petrol station (put it in first, then the diesel will mix up nicely as you fill up).

Cheers,

Mike

I Once tried this with my old mK2 Ford Escort and it never ran the same again and smoke youve never seen anything like it .....It was a great way to annoy your neighbours LOL !!!

Ok thanks I will put some in now because it is on half-a-tank... should I put it in every month the same as I did with redex...

With the Millers stuff, you should use it every tank, as it improves the cetane rating and isn't just about cleaning the engine. I've used it for a while now and Tanks economy has vastly improved (approaching 60mpg on a run), whilst performance when needed is still there.

Mike

Concur with Millers as a 'good' additive.

If you think about it, it gives you v-max for slightly less outlay..............

so, for a petrol stay clear? or is it worth a try? Im saying this as the computer tells me I'm due to get 350miles then I get like 200miles or it tells me im getting 55mpg and it is nothing like that, is this just cause its an old car? or is there less performance due to needing redex or something like that?

Thanks. :)
