Removing the 12v Socket

Has anyone successfully removed the 12v socket from the housing by the handbrake without breaking it? If so, would you care to share the secret of your success!?

I just want to get it out of the moulding, not 'delete it' permanently, by the way....
 
Hi @steveb . It's already off the car (bought a handbrake shroud from Steve) as I want to fit an additional socket under the ashtray. It looks as though the central metal core of the socket should push or twist out of the orange outer bit (that illuminates) so that the barbs in the orange bit can then be pressed in to release it from the shroud.

Only problem is, I can't see how to get the metal bit out...... :(
