Rise from the scrappers

I was going to scrap my fsi (only had since Sept last year), it was one of Mr Boons old cars, as it had developed several faults (eml being one) with one main problem of needing belts changed etc and a worrying misfire…. and at 107k was wondering if it was worth it??

After deliberation:

1. It is going in next week to get new cam belt/tensioner/water pump
2. New coil packs
3. A good full service
4. and anything else it needs
5. New proboost arriving in May??

Why…… well I think all the above will cost circa £1k

When all done I know where we stand… will start getting panels painted as required.

If I bought another for x£k it will probably require most of the above doing anyway. Besides, I miss having the fun with it.

???????????
I have just worked my way through exactly that list - proboost to be fitted shortly - plus one new fuel injector and the total bill has been about £1300. Even without the proboost it’s now running great. Four new Goodyears getting fitted tomorrow and it should handle as good as it looks. Coupled to the £1200 purchase price, I couldn’t find anything else this good for local trips for the money

Have just telephoned mechanic to ask him to replace the auxiliary belt and tensioner…… especially after reading that horrific story yesterday of that belt snapping of the water pump from another A2 owner?? or should that be ??

Don't worry - the horror story ended well - Ive got a really well sorted car now!

Also just to add - it was the main timing belt tensioner that seized shearing off the water pump pulley :) the auxiliary belt was fine!

Still amazed that the water pump shaft snapped clean off before the belt itself went.... ?
