Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of fitting an Audi roof rack to an A2? I've seen them, and they look OK. My options are to buy an A6 estate (don't really want to, but hey, we need the space) or to get a roof rack and a storage box to use when we're off on longer journeys.

Was interested to know if anyone's got one, if it affected their fuel consumption noticeably, and if there's a better place to buy them from than the local Audi dealer.

Cheers folks.

I have bought a new A2 roof rack for €100, but i have not fitted it yet (I can´t fit it on my A2 anyway, due to the Open Sky System (although it looks as though it might fit), so I´ll try it on my parents´ 1.2TDI) The instructions for fitting are quite complicated....you have to set the screws with a certain torque and a special wrench etc....

Bye, Frido.

Did you get an Audi one frido? E100 sounds reasonable to me - I'd expect it to be £100 by the time I got it though :-(

I got the Audi one, but it was from someone who has never used it (was still in its original packaging), normally it´s €136+tax.
There only is the Audi one and a Thule one (currently on eBay http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2415890543&category=40222

No experience of roofrack on the A2 but we have a Thule rack and Halfords Top Box for the Passat. Fuel consumption is higher (5-6 mpg) but part of that will be due to the increased weight with the car loaded. The Thule rack was cheaper thatn the VW rack (probably cheaper than the Audi as well) and when we change car we only have to change the feet, not the whole rack.

Easy to fit (5 minutes for rack and 10 for the box) and rack locks to the car (optional with Thule) so it will not disappear from the car.

Why are NEARLY all the A2s in Lichfield are silver ? ? ?

I bet that the VW etc. racks are made by Thule, most other makes seem to be e.g Volvo. There are some very good discounts to be had on Thule products if you look around. I saved a mint on a top box from a place in Kent, can't remember where at the moment, but if anyone is really interested I wil rack my tiny brain for you.
