hi bought yreg.2001 a2 silver.from newcastle from adealer in the auto trader on way home my wife noticed brake lights were not working,so on getting home we took it to audi as it under warranty.they was excellent and gave me a car .on the next day they rang with the bad news the car had been in a smash and the abs computer was u.s.so it was not covered by warranty.and is costing me over a thousand pounds to replace.i have tried to get into contact with dealer ie.phone texts voicemail to no avail.i do not want my money back as i love the car it is mint with only 8k on clock.but i do expect him to pay for the repairs.so ive been to trading standards and they are taking it up.while ive been waiting changed chorus 1. to kenwood single cd 170.00 fitted.to ease my suffering.

Don't do anything to the car! Leave it as it is, apart from the necessary repairs of course. Whether you want to keep the car or not, you might hinder your prospects if you do things to it that give the impression that you've accepted the vehicle. Litigation is tricky, and you don't want to push the scales the other way.

8k on the clock for an almost 2 year old car? Not unheard of, but considering that it's been in a crash that was not repaired properly, it could be clocked as well. Although, a suspicion of clocking could help your case.

Good luck. I hope Trading Standards pull their finger out for a change.

I agree with Karsci. If the car was sold to you without mention of accident then the dealer is on thin ice. OK, he may counter your argument with "well, you never asked" (did you?). But if you are now suffering problems due to the accident then I would doubt the repair. At the very least whoever carried out the repair should be held repsonsible for the non-replacement of a damaged part.

OK, you like the car, but there are more out there with your name on them. How bad was the crash-the A2 is a specialist car and was it repaired to a good standard?. How will it fair in another tail end shunt?.

I would be looking to ditch the thing and make as much fuss as possible now-you get further down the line and your seen to have accepted the situation.

now sent letter by recorded delivery.drafted by trading standards and modified by me .giving the dealer 7 days to free fix or compensation.as the only option to me is getting him on defective product.as i cannot get money back .the rest of the vehicle has been checked by audi and is okay thankfully .get it back today at last.i must say audi centurion york have been excellent .even lent me a car when they did not have to.keep you all posted. thanks

£1000 for an ABS ECU? I think a free loan is the minimum!!!

I would have also have gone for a complete refund, as the car was sold to you in an unroadworthy condition.

cannot have refund no legal obligation to recieve one .i would not be that daft not to try.advice off solicitor and trading standards.

Dont forget the service book has a specific sections for recording repairs to the bodywork or structure, so putting aside the seller/dealer comments what does the service history show ?

Owly,

I can only conclude that if your service history book does not mention body/structural damage, then it must be fair to say that the history of the car is not worth a carrot really. Indeed I would contend that you have been deceived, although I agree it’s difficult to highlight who is responsible for the deception.

In your shoes I would be contacting Audi UK, the original supplying Audi dealer, and the previous owner – all in order to ascertain the facts and true history. Moreover if you end up trying to pursue the matter legally, then you will need every scrap of information relating to the car, including a written report confirming that the car has been involved in a crash, and what evidence substantiates this.

What I would say is that if the original Audi supplying dealer was the party responsible for repairing the car and not adding the crash damage into the service history book, then it is they who are the major instigators of the deception.

Your car may look super, but if it has almost been a re-built write off, I would be wanting to have the car tested for accurate geometry.
