I must have talked about this atleast half a dozen times in the past but atlast I've found a solution...
Navman GPS 4400 (Bluetooth) + iPAQ H2210 (Bluetooth)
Haicom: MCX External Antenna
Brodit Pro Clip (specifically for A2) and Active Holder for iPAQ 22xx
All for £599.89
My main concern is the heat athermic reflecting windscreen (or whatever it's called!). As far as I understand, this will not allow GPS signals to pass through it, hence the need for the external antenna. The question is where this should be placed. Under normal circumstances it would be placed magnetically on the outer body of the car having been passed through a seal in the boot. However since the A2 body is a combination of plastic and aluminium, plus my roof is entirely made from glass, this is not possible.
So, the question is...is the rear screen of the A2 also got this heat reflecting athermic coating on it? If not, the antennae/GPS module be placed on the rear parcel shelf.
In case you were wondering, the IPAQ itself takes either compactflash or securedigital which means that it is possible to have many European countries at street level detail stored on one or two cards. The capacity can be used up as follows:
England (3 files totalling 73.6mb)
Scotland (14.2mb)
Wales (7mb)
Northern Ireland (1.4mb)
Republic of Ireland (2.5mb)
France (5 files totalling 124.7mb)
Germany (8 files totalling 189.4mb)
Italy (3 files totalling 71.8mb)
Belgium (21.8mb)
Netherlands (36mb)
Luxembourg (2.2mb)
Austria (48.4mb)
Switzerland (37.9mb)
Portugal (12.6mb)
Spain (3 files totalling 44.1mb)
Norway (Oslo only, 5.6mb)
Denmark (19.9mb)
Sweden (3 files totalling 85.8mb)
Any help on the antenna issue would be gratefully appreciated!
