Seats

I have been told by a VW techy that MKV Golf seats fit the A2, but before i buy some am not sure and wonder if anyone has any info?
cheers

As far as I'm aware the A2 floorpan is unique. Some members (craigyb and hooley spring to mind) have Mk1 TT seats fitted in the front but this requires adaptors to be made for the fixings. You've still got the task of sourcing rear leather or a retrim of these. Loads of faff in my book, I did consider it for a while mind you!
TT seats can be picked up quite cheap on eBay.

I've got heated cream leather Recaro seats from the Golf Mk 4. I had to buy some runners and weld up a low profile subframe to weld to the seats. I also had to grind off a lot of the Mk4 runners

I must take a picture soon...

I have got a full TT interior for sale if anyone wants the front seats.

Here's a picture of mine before surgery

I love those Jason. Really cool. What have you got in the back?

I'd be a wee bit worried about safety in a collision with all that grinding and welding - but I'm sure you know what you're about.

Cheers. M

I've got cream leather (2 seats) which are the same colour as the Recaro's. I've also got 2 cream leather SE front seats in my warehouse ( alongside a full interior in blue - free to a good home - the blue ones....)

The welded brackets are very much belt and double braces. Not concerned about them, but the standard fixing points are the weak point now...

Just for reference i took one of my seats out so i could photograph it to give you an idea of the use of an existing A2 subframe and runners and the Golf Recaro seat bolted to the subframe

And the full seat:

Any questions?
And, yes i know they need a clean....they are being done now as they are out....and cleansed and leather conditioned...before i go home.

They look good Hooley... just to check what you did here - are you saying the Golf seat is just bolted onto a subframe that came straight off the bottom of an A2 seat, or have I misunderstood?

Cheers

Okay.
1st i removed the subframe from the bottom of a spare set of seats (took about 45 mins)....I've still got my original SE leather seats in tact should I want to sell the car...
Then I ground off all of the bits from the subframe that I didn't need, which were mainly the side mounts for the backrest.
the subframe has it's own cross-members so is fairly rigid without the seat.

I had already ground off the runners from the Golf seats leaving the rear bar (which was a perfect fit between the A2 runners at the rear. I used a high-tensile threaded bar through this to fix the seat at the back (the rear runner fixing is hollow so I used several perfectly sized washers in 3 places to stop the bar moving in the tube)
At the front I drilled 2 holes through the front bar on the cross member to receive a U-bolt to secure the front.
I had to grind a channel to receive the front cross-member, but this gives support to the seat.

Not ideal but a workable, and most definitely safe solution.

The seat height still works, although I now have a seat that goes about 2 inches further back (and obviously 2 inches less forward), but that suits me better.

I'll take a picture.......off to get phone...

Voila..

Hope this helps

Also to note the heated seats and airbag are plug and play...yippee..

One thing i forgot to mention is that I've used the passenger subframe on the drivers seat as the off-set (about 15mm) means there is no catching anywhere for the leather on the transmission tunnel, as the seat bolsters are significantly larger on the Recaro seats.

Fun fun fun...

A TT seat and the recaro seat side by side to show the differences in bolsters

Also the Recaro has lumbar support that the TT seats lack.

Thanks

I would have bought Sport cream leather front seats but I've never seen any for sale, also they are not guaranteed to have the heating in either which is a must for me as the A2 takes ages to heat up (also have a bad back so they ease this beautifully after a long run)

Been pondering leather since I first got the car but blue trim and rear bench isnt the easiest starting point! Now if I could just somehow find a leather bench...
