SERVICE: Brake pad light still not out!!!

GRRR... Had the service. Not too bad price wise: full service, MOT and brake fluid change for £296. (£150 for service, £40 for brake fluid, £43 for MOT plus VAT) Don't even want to know what Audi would have charged!

BUT...

The light for the brake pads is still not out! He plugged the computer in and says it is not a resetable thing via the computer. It is a simple electrical connection that makes contact at a certain point when the pad gets too thin and the light goes on. Said they had it once before where the pads where duff and the light did not want to go out. So back to Kwik-Fit to fix... (Can't go to Audi as they won't touch it as per my previous post).

The second thing is the car now says next service in 9300 miles!!!!!!!! I told him the car is on variable and the next service should be in 32000 miles. He said it was not set for long life?!!! Is he lying? Did he mess the settings and just put it to 10000 so he can get another service out of me? Do I take it back and insist he set the next service to long life variable 32000?

Also transpires that Crawley Audi never stamped my service book to say the cambelt was changed at 60000!!!! So need to find that invoice (or get them to find it on their own computers) and get the book stamped... More annoyance!

sounds good price for a service but now you seem to be paying for it by not taking it to an Audi garage or VW garage for the sevice. Cheap isnt always the best in the long run. Hope you get things sorted ok

Johann,

I think you'll find that the "next service due in" figure gradually increases over the next few weeks. It shows as 9300 immediately after being reset, be that after a service or at PDI. I wouldn't worry at this stage at the low figure. In my experience it'll probably jump up to about 12000 in 3 weeks and then to about 16000 over the next 3 weeks and keep climbing until it settles.

I agree with Shaf - that's roughly what happened with ours.

No CRB the problem did not start by not taking it to Audi, but with Audi refusing to reset the light due to them not having done the work. This VW specialist was very good...

OK just back from Kwik Fit: they maracilously fixed it. Said the wire was not connected?!! After TWO checks at theirs the first time AND by the service guy?!!! I somehow don't believe them and think my sensor will now never ever work again. Took it back to the VW/Audi guy. He looked again but without taking wheel off etc could not tell, but it was plugged in at least... Who knows...

BUT. I'm now even madder at Audi. According to him at my last Audi service at 64000 miles they changed my car from long life variable to every 10000 miles!!!!! WITHOUT TELLING ME! Hence the car asking for a service just now at 77000 miles instead of 96000 miles as should have been the case. I have had it serviced up to now only twice at 32000 and 64000 as per the dash display...

So now he put in normal synthetic oil and there is no way to get around it. I have to have it serviced again in 10000 miles. I'm furious! They are caniving b*****ds for doing that and forcing me to service my car more often with them (Audi).... I won't ever, EVER take my A2 anywhere near an Audi dealer again...

Even though the Longlife oil is expensive it is FAR FAR cheaper than THREE services/oil changes over 32000miles...

So lessson: check that Audi keeps your car on Longlife and don't change it back to every 10000 miles for THEIR benefit and not YOURS.

Car is on 77000 now and in fact the display said service in 2300 miles - so at 80000 on the dot. But the MOT was due so I did both in one go... OH well whatever happened - or whatever the car is set to - with the current oil I have to go back in 10000 miles anyway... And according to him Audi changed the settings to non-variable at my last service. That I went past the 76000 miles (to 80000) is weird then and does reflect it still being on some sort of variable...

He put in oil now for 10000miles. He went by the service book which said non variable... So he put in synthetic oil that will only go for 10000 miles and I will ruin my engine should I try for 32000 on non longlife SLX oil...

I'll recitfy things come the next service... I'm still not a happy bunny!

had mine serviced at VW garage and they left me the remainder of the oil that they didnt use and its the long life oil, so at least I know thats what they did.
sounds to me that the Audi dealer is crap and I dont blame you for not going back there. I had a similar experience with Audi when my indicators packed in they didnt want to know. VW dealer sorted it out within minutes but had to order a new part which they did and fixed it the next day.
