Servicing and repairs

Hi,

To echo, is it offering or wanted? I live in Eynsham and have a suggestion if it's wanted, please answer the question.

Andy

Hi,

I will give you some background on the mechanic I use, other local members may be interested.

Very experienced, full apprenticeship when young with BMW I think and further career as a mechanic. Eventually moved on to the AA on call outs, a job he says he enjoyed, the challenge of any car make, any problem to get the member back on the road. It was also any time of day, with night work and he told me it got to to a point some weeks when he would not see his kids from one Sunday to the next. Things had to change and he decided over a decade ago to go independent and set up his own business working at home in Appleton, although he will come out to you in an emergency if commitments allow. His neighbours eventually complained to the council, I guess about the continual stream of cars, parked cars and imagine some car debris that builds up and possibly noise. He was forced to stop and find premises elsewhere which he has now done working out of a rented proper workshop near Appleton on a farm in Bessel Leigh.

The thing I like is he will come to you home to pick up your car early evening for any work/MOT the following day and returns yours in the evening. He leaves a runaround with you, which changes every time he visits! and you could probably use it as a courtesy car if you ask, I never have asked, simply no need. Of course he charges for this, something like £20 for me, but that surely has to depend on distance/ time, well worth it in my opinion. The faff/obligation in years gone by of arranging with friends/family to be ferried backwards and forwards to the MOT/garage is no more. He has several hundred regular customers and you will have to book 10 days in advance (except emergencies).

As he MOT's hundreds of car a year with his local MOT station I am sure he has a good working relationship with them;). I could say more but best not, except to say I know a safe car will be returned with MOT, and strangely never advisories which appear to be chat off the record, which he imparts to you.

Some minor criticisms
He is not an A2 specialist but has at least two customers with A2's.
If it has been raining the track up to his farm workshop may be muddy and car may need wash.
Buy a disposable plastic seat cover that mechanics are supposed to use if you are fussy.

Several years ago he used to charge £40/hour, not sure what it is now just a global sum of 'labour', but lately we have dispensed with paperwork ;). I have recently started to supply parts to which he has not objected. Parts he has to obtain same day will be expensive as you are paying for a 2 hour delivery system.

Nice chap, lifetime of mechanical experience PM me if you want his contact details.

Andy

Hi Andy, do you still have this mechanic of yours? How does some one contact him please thanks?

There is a very good guy at Culham, Volkstechniks and he is an Audi VW specialist, knows his A2 and is very capable. Adam Luckett is the man to ask for.

Welcome to the club.
