Solved 01309 J500 power steering module no communication

Hello,

Early tdi

My recent project has no power steering (super heavy) and a flashing yellow steering wheel on the dash with !
Vcds brought up the code in the title, no communication to the module.

Here's what I've found so far,

1. Found old altenator pulley on under tray, and signs of new altenator
2. Fuse 38 in dashboard has continuity
3. Fuse 80a in footwell has continuity
4. Air con doesn't work no fans on

I will get out again ASAP and check main earth cable and look for corrosion behind headlight.
I'll check for fluid level on cap dipstick and look for leaks

Any pointers For what to check in terms of multimeter stuff?

Will I have old style steering sensor how do I check?

Check for 12 volts at the power steering controller itself. No comms probably means it either has no power, or it's duff. Power is the basic check.

Edit! Also have the oil level sensor flashing! I will check fuse 38 again as my eyes are dreadful close up to small numbers. Have read this thread and it sounds too similar not to be it.

I think @Clackers Said he fixed a fault with air con sensor fuse??

Trying not to get over excited! Won't be able to check until tomorrow now..

Hi,
OK so the thread was correct, fuse 38 was actually missing, before I had removed 36, my bad eyesight on those pesky little numbers!
So I popped a fuse in and hey presto, air-conditioning fan came on ice cold air came out, and the power steering came back!!
Total result

So the three wires to the air con pressure switch look a bit grubby and are naturally strained into the plug so I'll get this looked at if it goes again.
