Solved: Noise under braking

If the level is very low, then pressure will be close to zero, as there's no oil to pump. Sounds like that was the case.
You need more than 1/2 litre, I'd think.
It's either burning oil, or leaking oil. Both are, usually, visible.
Mac.

Not seen any clouds of white smoke on overrun or anything like that. Damned difficult to get any reading on that stupid dipstick though. I have no idea what the actual level is!
The MOT mentioned slight oil leak (November), and I've not paid attention until now.. so it could have been a slow leak over time?

Do check if the dipstick end is still fully present or (as with so many) has broken off. There are pictures on here to help you compare and decide. If it's broken, it would be over-full by the time you register a reading on the dipstick at all. That and a duff oil-pressure sensor could be the problem.

I think that a red warning is low level + low pressure. If so, not overfilled. The addition of just 1/2 litre clearing the warning points the same way I think.

Dipstick looks like this:

Oil leak likely cam cover back right (as you look at car frontally) or oil filter housing, check dipstick housing too at base. Thencheck turbo area at back

That looks strange - nothing like mine - but then I found this thread:

You need to check your A2 has the right dipstick for your engine type,

Here's the most common type I've seen, it has a 1/2 circle profile with XX pattern on the flat side:

When I check the oil I always take it out, wipe the end of oil, and then reinsert. In all cases very gently and slowly.

Good Evening,

This takes me back to thread I posted in March.

In essence if in doubt about the dipstick oil level reading, (try reading my black dipstick!), why not check the oil level with VCDS which gives the oil level depth in millimetres. All you need to know is what the depth in mm for your model/engine code for a healthy oil level. Gathering this information for various models/engine codes was the point of the thread but alas the membership have not come on board and the thread is dormant.

However if you have VCDS and a kindly member posts a healthy oil level for their AUA (Year?) you would know where you stand.

My March thread is here if anyone wishes to contribute.

Any idea how this is actually measured, which sensor and where it is located?
Mac.

OK, I've found it, in the sump, obviously. Several variations across A2 engines and production dates. I'd think that, like a dipstick, only accurate engine off, on level ground?
