If you want to have the speed limit of the road you are on displayed on the map display on an RNSE it is possible (although I believe that it is only possible on the Mark 2 RNSE but happy to be corrected)
As many of you know, I do like my gadgets and this function is GREAT.
It comes with the latest beta firmware upgrade from the PCBBC website (google PCBBC RNSE). Huge thanks go to that site (I will be posting a donation to them today for helping get this function working)
Speed limit displays on a car that was designed 20 years ago !!!!!!!
you need to download the update (I chose the May 2020 beta version) but download it and burn it on a CD not a DVD (using the instructions on their site).
insert the CD into the RNSE and it will automatically upgrade.
That firmware update will also enable the RNSE to accept a coding of the unit as an A6 (which the 193B version allows as standard but the newer Mark 2s didn’t (eg the 193g unit)
you need the latest satnav map disc (not a bad idea anyway) the later the better. Ideally a 2019 or 2020 year disc (available on EBay)
But in my case with all of this done, mine still refused to give me the option to switch the speed display on (in the settings menu in the Sat nav area.)
After a LOT of trial and error and PLENTY of help from Tom (2Work) and then Ian (Bargepower who help me eliminate the sat nav disc version as the cause). I cracked it.
For sone reason, in my case I had to switch on the capability via VCDS.
To do this you select the 37 Navigation controller.
select adaption
Select controller 17 (no help or titles will appear)
The setting will show Zero
Change this to 1 then save (and accept the prompt) then close the controller and exit VCDS. That enables the option in the menu, if you set it to 2 it gives you an over speed warning too.
Select NAV on the RNSE then hit the setup button and page down and you should now see the “Speed display” option switch it on and hey presto you get the speed limit of the road you are on displayed as below.
Isn’t that cool!!!!!
MAJOR thanks to Tom and the PCBBC guys and Ian.
Thanks guys.
