Sports vs SE suspension

I have recently 'upgraded' my A2 to a Silver TDI SE with sports suspension, 17" wheels and lots of other goodies (thanks oliviaf :) ). My 2002 Azure Blue TDI SE with Alpine Sat Nav will be up for sale shortly.

After reading reports here about the sports suspension I was initially concerned that I would find the ride shocking. I am pleasantly surprised that even with the 17" wheels and 205/40 tyres, I actually find the ride a bit more agreeable. There is less 'rocking and rolling' and the car (obviously) stays more level around corners. Although the sports suspension picks up the small bumps a bit more, there is less crashing and banging over pot holes. The overall comfort level has increased. Has anyone else found the same thing or does everyone dislike the sports suspension?

Im neck deep in the search for my first A2, and for a whnile was swithering about this issue (1 4yr old + one on the way) - but thanks for clearing it up for me . . . I presume you have non-sport seats in which case Im sure the ride would be even better with the sports seats option?

Well I cant remember my SE in that much detail but I do have to say that having just bought a Sport 90(thanks ULP) that its not like I thought.
Having read posts on here about the ride etc I thought it was going to be terrible but I have to say thats in my opinion its really good and the handling is fantastic.
In fact my only woory is how the 17" alloys will cope with all the bloody cobbled stone speedhumps!!.

Hi Andyman,
Have the same A2 as yourself, but no trouble with wheels at the moment. Ideally, a good make of forged wheel might be a better option if you can afford them.

Well if they do go pear shaped then I will go for something different.
I really did like the TT alloys ULP is selling at the moment but cant afford them at the moment.
Ah well we shall see.

The wheels that Chris (ULP) has for sale will not fit the A2, unless you change the tyres, as 225/45 R 17 cannot fit without arch modification.

The wheels themselves will go (I am running TT OE wheels at the moment, but with 215/45 R 17 tyres), and would look great.

Cheers,

Mike

Whether you can really live with the Sport suspension will depend on the kind of roads you do most of your driving on. For motorway / decent A roads - no problem. Try it on a route with poorly surfaced / patched 'country' roads and it is a pain (literally).
