Strange Noise after tup...

Bit of advice fellas please.

Suffered a bit of a tup in the snow when the car slid heavily into a snow/ice covered kerb with the front nearside wheel whilst moving very slowly (<5 mph) and I would guess the wheel hit almost parrallell to the kerb.
Had the car examined at two garages (not specialists) and there is no visible damage though tracking is way out. (steering wheel also slightly offset)
Since then I've driven the car with no real problems other than a noise which is getting steadily worse. Sounds a little bit like the washing machine on a fast spin but obviously not as loud if you know what I mean.
Noise doesn't change when going round a corner, nor does it change when free-wheeling. It's not a grinding noise which I would have expected with a wheel bearing.
Having read some of the threads, could it be that I've been lucky and it's just tyre noise due to the tracking being out or is it more likely that it's a wheel bearing/drive shaft issue?
What symptoms would I expect to see/hear if it was one of the latter?
Many thanks
