Strange screw threads under bonnet

I recently bought an A2 and having looks under the bonnet realised that there are 2 screw threads which appear to be where bolts attach to and a further bolt hole next to the Oil filter. I've circled these in red on the attached picture. Is there supposed to be anything attached to these? If not what are they for?

There should be a plastic engine cover mounted to these on the TDI models,see the attached piccie from the A2OC gallery:-
 
Oh man...

Why the hell would the seller remove that before selling to me?! The seller claims he has no idea what happenned to it. What a Git...

It may not have been the seller's fault - more likely to be the garage where he had it serviced. It's a long shot but suggest this to the seller and ask him to follow it up with the garage.
One club member discovered the undertray was missing from his car after a service at an Audi dealer. They denied it was their fault but eventually 'found' the metre square panel in the workshop!!!!!!
