Tdi 75bhp won't start

Hi, Came out from work earlier today and went to start the car and I noticed the ABS light went out but came back on immediately and stays on which is unusual. Turns over fine but still won't start. Normally starts first time every time. Is it a safety issue with the ABS on and so its not going anywhere until its sorted?

Any help please

Never herd that before..Does the battery have sufficient charge, are the terminals clean and tight, are the connections in the auxiliary positive supply box clean and tight and is the box secure on the positive clamp??? Main engine earth between the chassis rail and starter motor can corrode and internally break as can the terminals corrode. Try to see if a good jump lead between an engine bolt and a bare chassis point makes a better earth.

Could be a fuel issue in that the injector loom is not telling the injectors to open, tandem not supplying enough fuel or too much air, clogged or water in the fuel filter even lack of fuel in the tank.

Has any work been done on the car? Does it fire for a second or two then die - immobiliser issue?

A VCDS scan COULD tell what the issue is if it logs a fault in the cars modules.

Thanks for your reply. I turn the key and give a few seconds for the heater light and ABS to go off and then would normally start it. Turns over happily with no struggle so the battery seems really good. It's odd that normally the ABS light just goes out which this does but even before I turn the key to start its back on again. Trouble is I've had to leave it in my workplace carpark earlier. So will try and see what I can do. Probably get it recovered tomorrow and hope for the best.

Make sure also it is nothing more sinister like a snapped cam belt...

Assuming belt still intact, try jump starting after checking all the battery terminals. Also try just using a jump lead and connect each end to the car engine and chassis as above. Could just be the battery has given up the ghost.

ABS light is something else to worry about after the car is running again.

I thought I had experienced most common issues with my TDi 75 but this is a new one. Two issues, that logically would be unrelated, occurring at the same time while parked up; so probably related.
As a first step I would be suspecting a wiring failure and get the fault codes read.

Very odd, Just got to work and thought I would try it. Started first turn of the key, no hesitation. ?

I feel I say this frequently, but Cam position Sensor is a potential culprit and as I proved with mine there are at least two failure modes and one of them doesn't give a fault code ....

Took it to ATS this morning and asked them to do a diagnosis test on it. It showed my battery voltage as very low. Its the original battery from 2005 and 155,850 miles later. I’ll see how this works out. Thought a new battery would be a good idea considering it’s the original one. So far all seems good.

Took it to ATS and they sold you a battery ... despite nothing you've said so far suggests you have a battery problem ...
