Tdi 90 cutting out

Hello
I've currently been having some issues with my tdi 90 sport. When driving the engine keeps cutting out for about 5 times until its is fine.
Left the car idling from cold to 90 before a drive
Engine cut out 5 times but restarted after a few seconds of cranking

2 seconds before the engine cuts out the ac goes from hot to cold each time

Engine cuts straight out, no stumbing the car has also had a new bosch tandem 8k miles ( car is on 104k now) and when I changed that and gave it a run to bleed it doesn't cut out like air in fuel

I have a broken brake pad plug so light is on with the dis but when the ac goes cold it also goes out

It happened last time I drove it with both eml and flashing glow (I have full dis breaks light worked)
Today had no warning lights when driving

Car is booked in at wom on Monday but was wondering if anyone had this before
Cheers
Charles

When it cuts out does the rev counter needle immediately from to zero before the engine as stopped rotating?
If it does then crank shaft sensor would be my starting point. Very common for this to not flag a fault code

It does, however when cranking it works fine and if I try and bump start it during it driving as I did the first time as a test! I still find it weird that the ac changes before it dies!

I can’t explain the A/C but don’t have climate on my own A2 so not that familiar with how it interacts with the car
I’d still be starting with the crank sensor and wiring to it
I assume you have already done a vcds scan and there are no fault codes present

Can you describe, in a bit more detail, what is happening when you say:
"2 seconds before the engine cuts out the ac goes from hot to cold each time"
Do you mean the AC switches off?
Mac.

Yep no faults!

No it blow cold, like the flap has just changed in the mixer, fan still runs when engine dies, I think it changes to just blow outside air temp

You mention the EML, is it on, or been on? If so, a scan with no faults is odd. Was it a VCDS, or other VAG specific scan tool?
Is the AC, actually ON, or do run in ECON?
I'm thinking crankshaft sensor. That doesn't trigger a fault in the log, but a clue is that the rev counter will drop to zero, as it's driven by the crankshaft sensor.
So could you watch the rev counter, to see if it drops?
Mac.

The battery had been disconnected since I last ran it so when I scanned there where no faults, but is doing identically what it did before with the eml on) using vcds light, I run with just normal ac!

No such thing as "normal ac". You either have rotary dials manual heating, or digital screen with buttons climate control.

You have previously mentioned the mixer flaps, so I think you have Climate Control, which, like you, I'd call Aircon. The basic, but unusual option, is no AC, just like ye olden days. Which I'd call no Aircon
I assumed it was anyway.
Mac.

How good is your battery and alternator? The condition of the ASV?

Lets see what wom finds.
Had a new bosch battery about 4 months ago, alternator kicks out a good voltage on the multimeter, asv had been cleaned when tandem was done. Did show a eml for the asv while in mallorca with it but disappeared soon after prior to cleaning it

No no eml, has happened twice in my ownership once for the asv prior to cleaning and the second for the start of the cutting out. I don't like my cars not running properly!

Loose or corroded "auxiliary power" box on the positive terminal can cause issues so check it is not corroded and all associated connections are tight.
